Hi I have a belkin F5D8233-4v3 router but the speed isn't what it should be. I have a 100/10 Mbit connection but when I have my computer connected through the router with a cable all the speed tests I try stay at approximately 50 Mbits and if I am connected by wifi it's only less than 40 Mbits. When I connect the computer straight to the modem then the speed is 100 Mbits. What can be wrong?

The speed of the wireless connection can be affected by -
1. The signal strength
2. Clashes with other wireless routers in your area broadcasting on the same channel
3. Electrical interference with the wireless signal
4. WEP & WPA Encryption of the wireless signal to prevent unauthorized access does slow the data transfer a bit.
That is why you are getting better performance using the LAN cable.

With high speed internet (cable), what should my connection speed be?

The network card in your desktop computer either is 10 Mbit/second or 100 Mbit/second or 1000 Mbit/second. That's the speed that Windows will show.

The actual speed of downloads to your computer depends on how much money you pay your ISP (Internet Service Provider) every month, e.g,. 1 Mbit/second for $30, 7.5 Mbit/second for $45, 15 Mbit/second for $55.

Use a site like: http://SpeedTest.shaw.ca to measure your actual download/upload speeds.

The dlink will not connect to internet because it says the usb port is not high speed how do i fix this

i think your usb slot supports only version 1.1 Install a new external usb 2.0 card or higher.

USB versions and speed rates are as follows:

USB 1.0/1.1 - 1.5 Mbit/s (Low-Speed) and 12 Mbit/s (Full-Speed)
USB 2.0 - 480 Mbit/s (now called Hi-Speed)
USB 3.0 - 4.8 Gbit/s (SuperSpeed)

Usb speed problem

I am not sure you can fix it there or different USB types.
  1. USB 1.0 Specified data rates of 1.5 Mbit/s (Low-Speed) and 12 Mbit/s (Full-Speed).
  2. USB 2.0 Added higher maximum speed of 480 Mbit/s (now called Hi-Speed).
Only certian motherboards have the USB 2.0..

That would seem to be the issue..

Belkin Wireless connection speed at 11mpbs. Why not 54mpbs?

this is from the d-link support page:
"Question :Why can't I get the advertised speed and performance when in Ad-Hoc mode?

Answer :

This FAQ applies to 802.11b, 802.11g, and Super G™products.

D-Link wireless products follow the IEEE 802.11 standards. The802.11b and 802.11g standards specify that Ad-Hoc mode only needsto support up to 11Mbps. For best results, use an access point orwireless router and set your adapters to Infrastructure (station)mode."

Belkin Pre-N Wifi - Speed problem

Hi,

When using a laptop that has a N-wireless card the computer will to connect to a G-wireless router the laptop will be able to connect but because the router is a G-wireless the speeds will not be as fast. speeds around 10 to 20 Mbps is about normal. I don't know why your computer is saying that you are getting speeds around 108 Mbps. Residential computers don't reach speeds that fast but some business computers running off of an T-3 internet will have speeds up to that high so that they can keep up with large amount of data being transferred over there networks. As for the USB, i have seen an USB adapter that was g-wireless at at Wal-mart for about $20-30.
