No dial tone

Hi,

I just bought a Canon MX700 printer/fax/scanner. The fax was working fine until about the time I ungraded my macOS to 10.5 and also upgraded my canon drivers. Could be unrelated. Now two things happen. When dialing, the fax dial tone is a busy signal both when plugged directly into the phone jack (replacing phone line) and also when it is run through the splitter. When it is run through the splitter, the phone line does not work. Suggestions?

    No connection is fine.

yeah, I upgraded drivers and still same issue. Could it possibly be the phone service? When I plug in the fax, there is just silence on the phone and I can't dial out now with the fax plugged in.

can I fax through a lan connection and bipass the phone line?

    Hi there,

I tested the phone wire by plugging in another phone with the wire and the splitter and both work fine and also simultaneously. So connection and wires are fine. when I plug the same cord back into the fax, then both connections no longer work. thanks for your help.

Hi,

Buisy signal indicates that there is problem with your connection. Please try unpluging all the cable connections and wait for 30min and then plug them all back and make sure that all the cables are connected firmly.

Goodluck,

You can also try uninstalling the drivers first and then install them back again..

Where should the telephone wire from fax connect to? canon mx700

Hello.
One end connects to the printer, the other directly into the wall socket for your telephone. Make sure it is not "behind" and Modem filters you may have also.It is not essential to have this cable hooked up unless you want to use the fax function. The printer and scanner will work fine with out this connected.
I hope this helpsRegardsGM

When trying to send a fax, the fax didn't go through, could it be that i am doing something wrong, or possibly a problem on the recieving end?

Could be either, make sure you are set up for the proper dialing mode, either tone or pulse dialing, and check your sent fax report for the error code created when the faxes don't go thru, and let me know what the error # is.

No matter what number i fax to I always receive a fax busy message. I have tried different phone jacks throughtout the house. What can I do to correct this problem? Thanks in advance!

Check in the fax setup menu and make sure that the setting for tone or pulse is set correctly for your area, most all systems now are set for tone dialing. Make sure you input the number just as you would dial it, like 1 before the area code and no area code if you are faxing a local number...
