When you see light print it can be from a few things. This is basically a laser printer with a fax machine so the same problems exist in both. The most common cause by far is simply low toner. If you take out the toner cartidge and gentl shake it side to side then put it back in. Now try printing again. This should be much darker. This may only last a few dozen pages (but can go a quite a bit more if you are lucky) but it shows you that you need to get a new toner cartridge. The other causes can be a image setting in the fax. In the control panel it will show you a setting for how dark it will print. Normally it is in the middle of the range. The last common thing is a fusor wire. This normally shows up as a error first but it can slowly fail. The fusor is the heater that bonds the toner to the paper. If it doesn't get hot enough then not all the toner sticks and you get light printing.
From my recollection the drum is a part of the toner cartridge in this printer so having changed that 3 times, it would not be at fault. I believe your machine has a worn/torn fixing film which is in the fuser assembly. That is the heated area where the paper goes through before exiting the printer. There is no quick fix other than replacement.
Try making a copy and see if print is still light.
Try printing out a list of your settings from the machine, phone list, settings list whatever...if the list is ok and the copies are light you will need the scanner recalibrated ... you could also try changing your paper as damp paper can cause lite print.
try changing the toner, this usually fixes the problem. If it's a new toner, then likely it's defective. You may be able to return it to the place you purchased it reporting the problem. More common in refurbished toner cartridges.
1. Pull drum and toner unit out.
2. Clean the laser glass with a clean dry cloth, I think it's located on the bottom of this machin where the drum lies on top.
3. If the problem is a constant light on the side this should solve the problem. If it's not constant it could be the drum contacts that are not making positive contact with the machine.
4. If you use aftermarket or refill toner good luck with that. I've seen too many machine ruined by after market/refill toner and it allways starts with the light copies and toner spilling all over in the machine.
It's time to change NEW DRUM UNIT..and that's why your Toner will Not Last Longer because unnecessary toner (the black lines) will be on the copy every time the fax comes or you make a copy.
