Hello there. A reformat basically means to erase everything and restore it to a point where it was new.
Now if you still want to reformat, Number 1, you will need the DVD to install the Windows 7 Operating system as well as all your files will disappear. Another thing you may do would be to make a complete back up and then the reformat.
Get a good anti-virus application (I recommend the excellent and free AntiVir) and run a full system check. Remember to update the antivirus application with the latest virus definitions.
Also worth installing an anti malware application (I recommend Anti-Malware) and running a full system check as well.
I suggest you power off the laptop and restert in safe mode. As soon as you power up keep tapping the F8 key - this will bring you to a screen that asks for a strart up mode - choose Safe Mode With Networking.
You will have a screen in low resolution (large icons etc.).
From here you should be able to download an anti virus program such as AVG or Malwarebytes. Do this and update the virus recognition files, then run the scan.
See if you can boot in Safe mode. If yes, then once up in safe mode uninstall all existing anti virus software's that you have installed. Then download Microsoft Security Essentials. But hope you are using a licensed OS. Download, install, update and then restart. Then do a full scan. This should solve your virus issues
If you are using windows o/s then go to control panel>uninstall or remove programs, then look for avg and click uninstall.Easy as that.Make sure you remove anything that says avg..
