My 32 lcd tv a black rectangle apears on aprox,

If it is a large black rectangle that blots out the middle of the screen then you need to check your CC (closed caption) setting. Make sure the closed caption is turned off. I'm not up to date on the newer sets, but a lot of the older ones had more than one CC setting. One setting ran the captioning across the bottom, another put it in a big black box in the center of the screen. Most places didn't support the full text so all that showed was a big black rectangle on the screen. Since I'm not sure exactly what your rectangle looks like, this is my best estimate of your problem. Hope this helps.

Try turning off the closed captioning. I had an older panasonic that did the same thing-still don't know how it got turned on in the first place.

Black block fills screen

Turn off the closed-captioning. It's set for "text" and the TV is blanking out the screen where the text would go if there was any. There's probably a single button on your remote to control captions, and it got pressed and put the set into text mode. Just press that button until the TV says "off" or use the TV's on-screen menu.

Black square in center of screen - no "closed caption" solution

Here are the steps from the owner's manual:

1. Display MAIN MENU. Press ACTION key on remote.
2. Display SET UP TV screen. Use arrow keys to select TV icon and press SET key.
3. Display CAPTION screen. Use arrow keys to select CAPTION and press SET.
4. Select CAPTION MODE. Use arrow keys to select CAPTION MODE. Press SET to cycle through caption settings until it says OFF.
5. Press ACTION key three times to return to normal screen.

You can download the manual from Panasonic here if you need a copy.

How do I get to closed captioning on the TV?

You will need the original remote. The TV/CAP/TEXT button turns it on and off. The CH.1/2 button switches between channel 1 and 2 of the closed captioning.

Big Black box covers screen

On the remote control is a button called closed caption or CC.. Someone turned on the closed caption. Simply turn off the closed caption. That black box is called the text box. Good Luck
