Just a quick note on the IBM prob I had I ordered a RAM set from States and bish bash bosch it works for ur ref this machine is pc133 Speed is still woefully slow compared to my T42 thinkpad but hey u know what us scotsman are like its always there as a word processor or a trainer for the family. Once again I must thank you for your help I did recieve other condecending replies Like to see how those experts would get on in DOS or even a sinclair ZX81
You know, I think you might be onto somethin' w/ this whole Scotsman thing..... ;)
You're going to fair a whole lot better running Linux on that old critter. That's why I'm still hangin' onto my old IBM Thinkpad. It's just too good a machine to throw away.
I believe you or the family would actually get some good use out of this machine running Linux on it. The Linux kernel is basically Unix. IMO, the most stable OS around. AND, Linux is open source, which means that it's scrutinized and worked on by top programmers all over the world. There's no hiding bloat or sloppy coding in open source software. Everything's "hangin' in the wind" when it comes to it's code. If anyone developes sub-performing code or distributions of Linux, it wouldn't last a day. Coders would be all over it like white on rice.
I really believe, Linux is going to take over the Microsoft and Apple markets eventually. It's been gaining ground, albeit slowly, for some time now.
