Hi guys, i am wondering if any of you can help me out...i have a rear projection toshiba, and the screen appears to have warped into an orb like motion. for instance, watching sports, the scoreboard scrolls on top and bottom bow out towards the middle of the screen.
my question is this: i know there is a way to straighten this out on a convergence screen not available on the standard menu options. this screen forms a graph, and that is where you can correct this problem. can anyone tell me how i can get to this screen??

Re: Toshiba tos-50h81 convergence issue
You have this in your menu. but your menu will not adjust and fix your problem. if all three colors are bowed in at top and bottom...red green and blue... then you need to change all convergance ic's and check fuses. also there might be some solder in fuses hiding on the board. Need to also check all fuses around conv ic's and around conv yoke plugs. good luck.

You have a convergence problem , the Convergence IC's are bad, Have the Convergence IC's Replaced to restore set to normal operation and Picture. The numbers on the IC's are the part numbers. They are the two large black IC's mounted on a Large /Heatsink..
You have a yoke and screen voltage issue with your red crt tube. If the red moves but not enough to do the convergence then you may be able to adjust the red crt. If the red doesn't move at all when you try to do the convergence then you most likely have bad convergence IC chips that need to be replaced. They aren't expensive, the last pair I did cost $36, but it involves taking the set apart and doing some tedious soldering. If you have no experience with this sort of repair you may want to go to a shop, They will charge $300-$400 to replace the IC chips. If you want to try this yourself post back and I can help point you in the right direction.
This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! See link for more detail http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html
are you sure it's yoke? these are know for bad convergence amp ic's other wise it's a screw and glue holding the yoke in place loose the screw and try to break the glue with out breaking the plastic on the yoke, the other thing you can do is adjust the magnets which have tabs on the yoke. i would mark the position's of everything on the tube with a sharpie so you can get it back to start.
Convergence amp ic bad http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html Sony Convergence http://www.techlore.com/blog/entry/19694/Sony-Convergence-Repair-My-Sony-TV-has-a-distorted-picture-/ http://www.techlore.com/article/19631/Sony-Convergence-Procedure/
Did you check the supply fuses to the convergence ICs? Did you check the output resistors then i would start by replace the convergence ic first. http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html
Well without the schematic, knowing Toshiba they have alot of convergence problems, so see if the fuse blown in the convergence area, if you you may have to replace convergence amps. These are the big STK's. Most of the time there was a color problem with set before going out. If no problem with this on your set then look in the HV area Hor. and Ver. area. Hope this helps!
