Dear Lucked

I would say that you should start by checking your internal fuses that will be located usually nearest the power cord input on the PCB. You will know these fuses because they look like normal plug socket fuses but only are glass. Look for either the bridge recifier (if on a DC signal PCB) or the power transformer that either steps up/ down the voltage to a more manageable median. When you find either of these components, the glass fuses should be fairly close by.

In addition to your question, yes these fuses can blow, but they are designed to save your components from being blown to bits by surges or spikes, even general wear and tear from thermal pressure on the glass can break the fuses.

If the internal glass fuses blow, not all of the time the fuse at your plug socket will blow, but in severe cases this is possible. In order to prevent this from happening in the future, make sure your lekky bits are on a surge protector and you maintain correct gapping/ spacing of your consumer electricals from furniture. On TV sets, you should leave at least a 45mm spacing from your set to furniture. Personal computers should be at least three times this.

If you are good with electronics and are confident that your knowledge is sufficent to overhaul/ replace the convergence chips, then make sure your DISCHARGE ALL COMPONENTS THROUGHLY BEFORE WORKING ON THE SET and ensure you use the correct IC extraction tool and tools for the job, in addition to this, an anti static wrist strap will be of good use in order to prevent you damaging your components by electrostatic discharge. Always place your components on antistatic bags (get these from computer shops) and remember TELEVISION SETS CARRY VERY HIGH VOLTAGES. so treat every component as carefully as your life, and do not attempt to rapid discharge electrolytic capacitors by shorting the terminals, the same applies for the tantalum type. If in doubt, leave the unit for 2 days to thoroughly discharge all mains electricity (unplugged from the wall, and remove the plug so nobody accidently plugs the unit in).

SShould you have a comment or a question, then im on hand here all of the time, so drop me a loggy and i will respond. :)

best wishes

Toshiba 40h80 red light blinking

I would suspect the problem is in the convergence circuit---only one simple way to know---get at and un-solder all 18 pins on both the STK chips it uses.

Once they are free try to turn set on--if it comes on one of the chips is bad and both will have to be replaced.

Is the thermal fuse a wire that plugs in or is it a micro chip.and if its a micro chip where do you put in?

A thermal fuse is only used in Sony sets that are LCD rear projection for the most part---they are usually either at the lamp or in series to it.

If the thermal fuse is bad the set will not operate but will have a specific blinking code of the red light----it will blink a sequence of blinks like 5 blinks, a pause and repeat it over and over.

Model number? Blink code?

Red light keeps flashing on toshiba theatre. How can I fix it?

on the older sets it is a short and usually in the convergence circuit, the way to know is located the convergence chips and unsolder both from the board (18 pins each) and if set then comes on (WILL LOOK BAD) one of the two chips is bad and both need to be replaced----should be stk-392=110 chips.

Red light blinking and no picture on Toshiba Model 65HX81 how do we fix?

Red power light blinking is shutdown--protective mode.

Before buying a remote I would see what is wrong with set.

The most common reason on this model is a short in the convergence circuit--uses two chips----method to see if they are shorted is to locate (not real easy on this model) and unsolder all 18 pins on each chip--if set turns on then(will look bad) one of the chips is gone and both need replacement.

The other issue this set has is bad Hyper boards that cause noise when cold and operate after warmup---more expensive to fix than a convergence problem.

convergence chips used in this set look like these

I have a pioneer pro 730hd took the back off and now the red power light just blinks and it wont turn on

If convergence was off it may have railed (shorted convergence chip) and the set is now in shutdown.

Also go over inside in case you moved or pulled a plug loose.

This is not an easy set to replace the chips and only the original remote will adjust convergence.

Samsung HCH551W My TV will not turn on, the red light blinks 7 times then the power clicks off. I doesn't really turn on as the picture screen does not do anything, just the blinking red light by the...

I would suggest you remove back cover, most of these sets have a small circuit board mounted above the main chassis, it is the convergence board and has two fuses (they are green or orange and look like a resistor).

Check them like any fuse for good or bad, set should use two of the STK392-040 chips on same board---some models have the chips and fuses on main board below and are harder to get at.

I suspect and it is most common problem, the chips are bad and one of the two fuses (one for each chip) is gone, set detects no voltage and shuts down.

A photo of the inside of the set from the back would tell me which version you have.

Before you rate this solution let me know what you find, I am here to help.

Convergence issue, replaced convergence chips, now blinking red power light and no picture

Recheck all of your solder connections for bridging and cold solder joints. Check the large output resistors under the heat sink and the smaller ones to the left of them. Check all of the fuses on the power board. And make sure that you check all of your connectors carefully. Also check that you didn't pinch a wire somewhere.
I am not being mean by saying that if you could power up before then more than likely the power up issue was caused by something you did.

I have a sony projection tv and the red is coming out of line where it makes you see double like a red rainbow effect shadow. I tried the flash focus and the problem still persists any ideas on where to go...

When you first turn it on,Count the flashes on the standby/power button.

Continuous blink once a second, no pausing - No reply from the jungle IC301 (data bus is busy, shorted to ground,or held high), IK video path is defective.

Two blinks - B+ over current protection (OCP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 2 blink fault. Could be a short in the power supply of any of the circuits.

Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This isalso a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.

Four blinks - No vertical Deflection (V STOP), Screen goes to a single horizontal line then the video signal muted.Check IC1509, Q1505

Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on
the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

Six blinks - No Horizontal (H STOP), no raster, goes to the blinking self-diagnosis function immediately. Check C515 & 516 and the jungle IC, IC206.

Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits
Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback
transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.

Nine blinks - Replace D 6116 and D 6301 on the "G" board, do not resolder as this will fix the problem temporary. Or Panel Module Error or Thermal Error. If it is intermittent 9 blinks, meaning sometimes the TV comes on and other times
you get flashing, then change the switching regulator on the "G" board or check connections. Make sure the regulator is -12 or -13 (negitive).

Ten blinks - Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors
are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board

No picture red light blinks 7 times

in this model is commom that the convergence ic.s go bad and stop the set from turn on check for a couple of fuses that are in convergence board if is blow replace convergence ic
