We are regularly getting soot on pans from one stove burner. One area of the burner seems to be flaring a bit, not much, but the flame from one of the ports dances slightly higher than the other areas of the burner and seems to be where the sooting happens. We have a JennAir gas stove, approximately 10 years old.

Hello,
Sometimes just a few clogged holes in a burner is all it takes to cause uneven flames that result in soot. Take a sewing needle and poke the burner holes clean. If it's really dirty, remove the burner (if it's not a sealed top burner) and clean it with soap and water in the sink. Let it dry before you reinstall it, but be sure to remove the knob from the range, so no one accidentally turns on the gas without the burner attached. Let me know if that solves it or if you still need more help. Douglas

Try to take the burner off and clean it. If cleaning it does no good then replace it. You can get a new one at your local appliance store

How do I adjust the flame on a MGC5430 gas cooktop? Flames are too yellow and cause black soot on bottom of pans. Doesn't seem to have an air shutter adjustment

Is this unit set up for natural gas or propane? New stoves usually come with ORIFACES for both gasses. They would install between the on/off knob and the burner tube under the stove top. They may be tapped to the under burner area of your stove. If you lift your top stove cover you may find them. If you don't find them, you may need to purchase the correct applications for your stove. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Black smoke coming from oven while preheating

If you are getting soot residue, it could be a number of things, First, is this a natural gas or propane oven? If you bought an oven to be used for propane, it may need to be converted from natural gas to propane or it will soot everything up. 2nd, have you recently spilled food/liquid onto the oven burner? If the burner holes are partially plugged, the remaining holes will burn large yellow flames and soot up the oven. Check the burner flames, they should be mostly blue with little to no yellow tips. Also make sure the oven burner flames are not too big. They should never exceed the width of the flame spreader pan directly above the burner, in fact they should be less than half the width. You could also have other issues like improper air shutter adjustment to the oven burner or very low regulator pressure, but most likely it has just been spilled on recently.

1 burner flares and sputters

Hello. Chances are that something on the stove boiled over or got poured into that burner. take it off, soak it overnight in water with dishsoap added, then rinse it and let it dry before reinstalling it. Repeat the soaking in soapy water if necessary until the flaring, sputtering and black soot is gone. regards, Joe

Black soot on Coleman propane burner

Had same problem. Coleman tech support said, " clean with pipe cleaners". No directions....I would think they would provide a step by step protocol. So, I chose to take the knobs off and use the pipe cleaner where I could. I was able to take one of the two burner control knobs apart. After sticking the clean in every nook I could find, I put back together, and the flame on that burner is back to normal,

Good Luck--Daryl in Burnsville, MN

Side burner on Jennaire grill

Hello
The soot stains come from the air mixture, that will show too much yellow flame tips, just adjust the air intake, too have an idea how much to adjust it, and also it wouldn't hurt to clean the flames holes by sticking a pin. Alos make sure you have the right fittings converters. It's the grill LP Gas or Natural?
Hope this help
