Question about Computers & Internet
I have a sony viao, shows viao screen then comes up with message can not find operating system, any ideas. cant even get to biaos, might have something to do with not as bright as i tyhought, or even is there a manual of some discription i can get to take laptop apart, thank you for your time.
Most likely, your hard drive is the problem here. It is trying to read your hard drive but is finding none. Either it needs the hard drive sata drivers, assuming it has a sata hard drive or the drive might be defective and needs replacing (worse case).
Upon starting the laptop, press either the F10, F2 or F3 key and see if it takes you into the bios. When in there, please check if you can see the hard drive device. If you can see it, then you might only need to reinstall the Operating system with the sata driver. If you don't see it, then there might be something wrong with the hard drive.
Also, if you can let me know the exact model number for this laptop, I can give you a link to troubleshoot problems, download driver and manuals, etc.
Let me know what you find out about the hard drive.

Do you have a floppy disk in the floppy drive if it has one? How about a CD in the cd drive or a usb thumb drive in one of the ports? Remove or unplug and of the above and try again.
If you are still not getting past the no os found message then you should check that your hard drive is properly plugged in, it might have come loose. Usually the hard drive is found in a compartment on the bottom of the system, or behind a door on one of the sides of the notebook. I've also seen it under the keyboard but that is rare.
If it is properly plugged in then you might have a dead hard drive. Or the boot sector got wiped. If you don't have any important data on the drive you can reload Windows using the restore DVDs or CDs that came with the system. If you don't want to restore right away you may be able to repair it using the restore CDs but I'm not sure how Sony structures their CDs. You can also take your drive to a computer repair shop and have them check it out to see if it has died.
Hopefully it is just unplugged. Good Luck!
