I have a Kenmore Elite H3 that is about 4 years old. I have a recurring problem with a mildew odor. I have tried all the various products and suggestions for getting rid of mildew. After researching the problem, i saw one owner of a similar machine who completely disassembled his washer to clean the gunk and scum buildup from the outside of the tub and to insure there is no clothing stuck in this area.
I am looking for step by step instructions on how to accomplish this teardown, similar to the instructions for replacing the rubber door bellow posted on this site.
Before i would disasemble the washer i would try a product called Affresh you can get it at Lowes the item number is 163338 and it costs $ 6.98. I would try thid first and if it works a lot cheaper fix. Also if it works to keep mildue down on the machine, just leave the door adjar between loads and the moisture will dissapear along with the mildue

Thanks, but I have tried a lot of the suggested solutions, Affresh, Whirlout, Bleach, Cascade, etc. but would still like to examine the tub to make sure there is nothing there. Clothes still don't smell clean.
I too am having issue with mildew/mold smell. I especially smell this on my towels. I have sprayed the machine down with bleach as there is mold on the gasket around and in front of the drum. I have done this several times to get rid of the mold. I also have mold problems in the soap dispenser. I always leave the door ajar when not in use.
