If you are adventurous you could buy a faulty one of ebay and swap the lens or if the faulty one has a broken screen or mode dial swap yours over to the faulty one.. there are a couple of "tricks" do getting this camera open drop me a line if you decide to proceed...

Its a problem of the lens. Some how lens focus ring not move properly internal side. Replacing the lens is only solution. But before that try to clean the external body of the lens & sensor. Sensor position is just side of the flash light. After cleaning try again & let me know. Thanks.
Hello, This happens quite often and the bad news is it is not worth the cost of repair,the good news is you can sell it on E-Bay for parts and by a good used one to replace it.If you buy a good used DX6490 you can still use your battery,charger,and other items from your old camera. I have several very nice DX6490 units that I sell. Best Regards, Russell [email protected]
It will be a repair shop job to do properly and will cost - lots
So bearing in mind the the mechanism is very delicate and the drop may have wrecked it anyway you have nothing to lose I feel in trying very very gently giving the partially out lens a little tug- you cant break it worse thats for sure
Try it--------- Then go buy another camera ;-}
Most Samsung camera has that problem when it gets a
year or more usage. The lens filter is already
defective, it's a factory defect that the company must
correct! It has too small lens that when exposed to
moisture gwill become blurry permanently. Samsung
should replace that parts free of charge!! They should
recall these models and correct that fault.. [:0(
