Question about HP LaserJet 2420dn Printer

1 Answer

Hp2420 does not print correct ranges in all apps.

Recently had an HPLaserJet 2420 start printing incorrect page ranges in Word 2003, shaving margins in Lotus notes and both range and shaving problems in MS Excel 2003. We are running MS WINXP sp2. Mcaffee virus scan. I have two other identical printers that are not acting up using PCL 6 driver. I have worked around the problem with a PS, PCL and HP1200 driver each on different applications. The goal is to get back to one driver for all and maybe even figure out the cause.

I have found the solution. Quite simple. In the printers properties box select the general tab. Click on the on the printing preferences button. Selecting the Paper/Quality tab, observe the Print Task quick sets. These all need to have Default print settings selected. In our case, they were not. This enabled all applications to print correctly once again.

Hi fsaltzman,

You need to check the margin settings in the print preview option, make sure you decrease the margins that are set by default and try printing a test page , this should work fine.

On the File menu, you need to click Page Setup, and then click the Margins tab.
Here you can adjust the margins as per your convenience.

To View page margins :-
  1. You need to go on the Tools menu, select Options, and then select the View tab.
  2. Under Print and Web Layout options, select the Text boundaries check box.

The page margins appear in your document as dotted lines.

You can use these dotted lines to correct your margins so that your student's assignments are not cut off and there is no large margin as you have mentioned in your question.

You can view page margins in either Print Layout or Web Layout view only, and they do not appear on the printed page.

Hope this helps

My hp 2420 is printing a black line-form

Lines are usually caused by the toner cartridge or the fuser. In order to determine the cause you can replace the toner and see if the lines go away. If not then it is in the fuser assembly and you would need to replace the fuser.

Paper feed

The feed rollers are slipping on the surface of the label, causing the page to load incorrectly. There is no permanent solution at this time. Try one of the following workarounds to correct this issue. Workarounds Workaround 1 Adjust the top margin using Page Setup.
  1. Click File , then Page Setup in the program being used, (accessing Page Setup may vary from program to program. Refer to the Help file for that program).
  2. Adjust the top margin until printing is correct on the label.
Workaround 2 Manually print one sheet at a time. Place one sheet of labels in the input tray at a time, printing only that page. Repeat for all pages of labels needed.

HP 2420 Tray 2 Open or Empty

Needs feed roller replaced, you can see it when you remove cassette and look up, they wear and tray one uses a diiferent feed roller hence it still works. Cleaning the roller (rag with a little metho) sometimes helps but it should be replaced otherwise it will return.
