If you have Windows Vista Home Basic Then any attempt to install XP will be disasterous! You can thank Microsoft for this bit of chicanery. They want you to stay with Vista and so the boards fitted do not accept XP drivers
Not both. If you have the Vista recovery, go ahead and load it first, then load the XP by creating a new partition on your harddrive. Now you have a dual boot machine, and will need the XP device drivers. Not sure if you have them or not, so here is a place to get them.
There are a lot of things that do not work on Vista that do work on XP. For that reason some of my client's have asked me to re-install XP so they would not have to upgrade their hardware and software programs. You could have the same problem.
i have been serching around and it seems compaq.hp does not supply a eternet driver for xp unless you aretalking about the wifi card drivers it seems xp is supposed to have the drivers with it. i do not know what you meen by "how will i get vista on net?" i will keep looking for a sulution
