When I open an email attachment, it opens the document into a new tab on the brower, not as a pdf, word doc or excel doc. What needs to be changed in my settings?

If you click on the image there are three options View Online, Save to OneDrive or Download
To open with program installed on your computer select 'Download' when the other window opens .. select 'Open With' - Other.
From here you can select the appropriate program you wish to open it with.
Hope this is helpful, please click the Helpful Button below to show your appreciation. Good luck.

When i open an attachment in my email i goto windows media center i need to goto the attachment i'm tring to veiw how do i get back to viewing the attachment ?

What type of attachment it is? Is it JPEG(image), or Word File or , Excel File? To open the file type you should select the proper application. You can try the following thing while opening your e-mail attachment. right click on the Attachment which you have download and select Open With. It'll show you the list of application through which you can view your attachment. In your case i thing Window Media player is selected by default that why when ever you try to open it keeps on opening in Media Player.
First try to know what type of mail attachment you are getting, If you have Word file then select Open with "Microsoft word", If any image then Select "windows picture and fax viewer".
If it is a .PDF file type then you should open it with Adobe Reader(IF you don't have Adobe reader then You need to download it from net to few it.
Similarly if it is ZIP. file then you must have Win ZIP software to open it.

I hope you understand what i mean to say and Hope it'll work for you. :))

Try to Restore Microsoft Excel to Its Default Spreadsheet ,
Open Microsoft Excel.

Navigate to the Help menu and open the "Detect and Repair" function. The Detect and Repair dialog will appear. If you want to restore your shortcuts at this time, check the appropriate icon
Click "Start." Wait for a short period while Office deletes all of the settings on all of the programs in the suite and restores it to its original installed state. This will apply the settings to Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and any other Office programs you have installed

you have to right click the file (word doc. or excel doc.) and select "open with". A window will appear that allows you to choose which program will open this file. Select word for the word docs and excel for the spreadsheets and select the option to always do this for these files types. Once the default program has been set all other files with those extensions will now open with those programs. Sending attachments in Outlook 2003

Have you tried the repair option in Outlook? From the help menu, you can choose Detech and Repair. Also, you can choose to repair all of Microsoft Office from the Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs, find Microsoft Office, and click change. Then You can choose to repair.

Open attached files from e-mails

If all you are wanting to do is read or print the email attachments, and they have been written using Word 2003 or Excel 2003, you can go to Microsoft.com and download Word Viewer 2003 and Excel Viewer 2003. These two viewers will allow you to read or print either Word or Excel documents as long as the original composer used Word 2003 or Excel 2003, or some earlier version such as 2000 or XP. To the best of my knowledge, Microsoft has not released a viewer for any of its 2007 programs yet.

However, if you are wanting to compose new documents, or edit the attached documents, you will need to have a copy of the program in question.

There is also one other possibility. You can go to openoffice.org and download a free copy of Open Office. I am not sure if the Open Office Suite is 100% compatible with the Microsoft Office products, but it should be close enough to get you by.

One other thing, if you are receiving .pdf documents, you can go to Adobe.com and download the latest version of Adobe Reader. This is also a free download and will allow you to open, view and print the .pdf documents but, again, in order to edit them you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat (not free) or some other compatible program such as Open Office (again there may be some slight compatibility issues to deal with).

Hope that helps - Graye
