If it has r12 in it just drain it out and recharge the system with R134A.

How do i recharge the air conditioner on my 1990 lexus 400

This is best handled by a shop which specializes in AC repair. I doubt you have the proper equipment to flush, lubricate and recharge the system. It isn't as easy as it once was when you screwed a can of refrigerant to the nipple on the low pressure side of the circuit.

My ac wont work

Must be Air-Condition System Lines/ Hoses leaking R12 Freon (gas).

MAYBE THE PULLY HUB BEARINGS FAILED OR
DUE TO VERY LOW R12 FREON (GAS ) will not work.
Because there is a switch in the receiver/dryer prevent AC from working when low R12 Freon present, to protect the system & compressor damages.

You must fix the leaks, before recharging it.

They must **** the old (residue) gases from the system & lines / hoses...... & stay in the vacuum pump 30 minutes to proof no more leaks.

Recharge some oil for the old type R12 Freon gas.

Before recharge it to 62-67 psi R12 Freon

How do I recharge the AC freon on my own?

You should have R12 freon in a 1990 but you can put R134 freon into that system the only problem your going to have is the adapter for R12 is different from R134 after you get the adapter you need to put the freon in the low pressure valve not the high pressure, you will know which one because the adapter only fits the low pressure valve which is located on your AC lines under your hood, theres a little cap thats either blue or black you unscrew. You can't buy r12 anymore because its not good for enviorment so buy R134. you can buy at any parts store for like $5 to $10.

I replaced the timing belt and water pump on my 1990 Lexus LS-400. Now it starts, but won't run. It will run on starter fluid. I have not yet filled the cooling system.

U NEED TO FILL THE COOLING SYSTEM AND SEE IF THAT HELPS.THE ENGINE HAS A COOLANT TEMP SENSOR THAT THE PCM USES(AMONG OTHER THINGS)TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH FUEL THE ENGINE NEEDS.IF THAT DOES NOT HELP RECHECK THE TIMING MARKS

I have a 1990 Lexus LS 400 and the brakes have failed. I replaced the master cylinder, the brake lines and now being told the ABS "brains" of the braking system needs replacement. Has anyone had this...

If the pedal is spongy you may still have air in the lines. If there are no brakes at all you may need to adjust the push rod for the master cyl. If the ABS has a fault it will set a code and the rest of the brake sys. will work normally
