Hello,

This is the most common errors/problems in lcd screen, create vertical or horizontal line. As i consult our resident electronic technician. he found out that the is a problem in vertical or horizontal projection panel board. The problems needs a series of testing and troubleshooting to shoot issue and resolve. So therefore your problem can be resolved only by personally servicing the unit. I suggest you to contact the vendor or the repairman in your area.

PS: pls do not rate me if my solution not solve the issue and you need more further information. but if is invaluable solution rate me fixya.

best regards, melnavz

Horizontal blinking lines appear on the screen of Sony Vaio VPCEL 10EL

Possible cause:

1. Video card failure.
2. Bad connection between video cable and LCD screen.
3. Bad LCD screen.
4. Faulty video cable.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:

1. First of all, test the laptop video output on the external monitor. If you see same flashing lines running through the image on the external monitor, you have a problem with the video card. If flashing lines appear only on the laptop screen, the failure is not related to the video card.

2. Just in case, try re-seating the video cable connectors on the motherboard/video card and maybe the back of the LCD screen. It' s not likely but possible that connection is loose and reconnecting the cable will fix the flashing lines.

3. If re-seating the cable connectors doesn't help, most likely you have a faulty LCD screen. The LCD screen has to be replaced.

4. If replacing the screen doesn't help, try replacing the video cable. It's very unlikely that this problem is related to the video cable but there is a slight possibility of that.

I am getting lines on my laptop screen. the colored lines appeared all of a sudden and hiding half of my screen. pls help

Hi azmiug,

I see that you are getting colore lines on the screen hiding half of your LCD screen, Please see steps below.

*Turn your Laptop OFF.
*Once Turned OFF, Turned the Laptop back ON then keep on tapping F2 on your keyboard.
*By Tapping F2 on the keyboard this will bring you to the BIOS screen, once in the BIOS of your Laptop and the Colored Lines are still present then the problem is the LCD of your laptop and may reuire replacing.
*If the Colored Lines are not present then the Problem would possibly be the connection of the Video Card to the LCD or the Video Card itself.
*Reformatting Windows can be one of the steps to be done to find out if the issue Colored Lines will be fixed or not.

I hope that this will help you with your concern.

Have a nice day,

mvincentc

My Ibm Laptop r51 has a vertical lines on the screen

The lines appearing on your LCD means it has a defect on the screen.

There are 3 types of pixel defect
1) dead pixel - pixel is always off
2) stuck pixel - pixel is always on
3) hot pixel - pixel is on but in red, green, blue or yellow, can also be a light black color

You can try to fix stuck or hot pixels but dead is dead.
1st method, flashing different colors rapidly:
JSScreenfix.com has a great tool. This is their free java applet or you can download it below.

2nd method, applying pressure to pixel:
Damp paper towel, Small stylus or dull pencil.

3rd method, tapping the pixel:
Pen with cover on or another small, blunt object.

If your laptop is still under warranty, get it replaced. If not you are looking at the most expensive part in a laptop to get replaced. (LCD screens on laptop is roughly equivalent to 40-60% of the total laptop cost

Please rate this if it this helps.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

I know not everyone has this ability, but if you can, go to a friend's house and hook up an external monitor to your laptop. You may need to use the function keys to switch from LCD to external, but if the lines go away on the external, you have a bad LCD. If the line shows up still on the external, then your problem is either:

a) video driver (free, easy fix)
b) bad inverter (video 'outputter') ...approximately $10-50/varies + labor costs to replace
c) bad video card/motherboard ...usually between $200-$400 + labor to replace

Hope this helps - please be sure to rate my answer :)

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.
