The flash unit on my Fuji Fine PixS5770 no longer works properly.

The flash unit on my Fuji Fine PixS5770 no longer pops up when needed. The catch releases but the unit does not pop up as it did originally. I can prop it up with one finger and it works but this is inconvenient.

No have not been able to fix the problem. The one finger prop up is still working but continues to be annoying. I will eventually send it to a Fuji repair shop but the nearest is in Sydney, some 300 ks.distance from here and they say to allow 14 days or more. Graham G.

Did you fix it ? I have the same problem now

  • Anonymous Dec 05, 2010

Don't blame the Fuji Designers for this fault - it was the Fuji Bean Counters that are at fault - the flash design is for TWO springs, the plastic casting has the holes for a second spring on the other side - which wasn't fitted so 100% overloaded the single spring mount.

Anyway if you are brave and handy you CAN fix this.

First remove the back of the camera - 3 screws in battery bay, 1 in the side above the memory card door, The two rear most on the bottom, two in the USB/video door, and the rear most on the left hand carry strap bracket.

Carefully prise the back rearward about 5 to 8 mm.

Now take a look at the two screw holes under the flash (when popped - or flopped out now that is broken) now go and bend a screwdriver of the type you used for the previous screws - you will need a 90 degree bend very close to the tip to fit in this gap and be able to turn the screws a few degrees at at time.

A little at a time lock the screwdriver into the screws and undo until the flash cover comes off.

You can then slide the shaft out of the flash to release the spring which will have the end that should fit into the broken bracket now sitting proud..

Make a suitable bracket A U shaped clip that slides over the broken plastic one with a hole drilled in one side for the spring to clip into.

make sure it fits really well then epoxy into position.

Getting the spring back in is a fiddly job - I found the best way was to fit the end of the spring into the new bracket, slide the shaft just into the spring - the lever the other end of the spring down into the back of the flash body and then slide the shaft all the way into place.

I did have to file down the little plastic "blade" inside the lid which presumably is designed to assist the the (now broken) bracket from breaking....

reverse the dis-assembly and now you should have a working flash

Fuji finepix f810 flash wont pop up when button pressed

hi your camera is kind of getting old but it is still great. some people really like it. personally I like also. however, fuji finepix f810 has little problem like yours due to delicate design. on your flash problem could has two sequence check. first is flash circuit defective or flash tube defective. second is main pcb doesn't work properly with flash function. your local repair shop would charge around $75 to 185. Fuji camera usually charge more than other brand. I am sorry that you know. Good luck with you and best regard.

My fuji finepix releases the flash when the shutter button is pressed but the flash does not pop up into place

Mine did the same thing. The problem in mine after extensive disassembly was the plastic had broken inside the flash where the pop up spring attaches.

This was a pretty extensive repair with full disassembly in my case, not for most people.

A workaround is to take a small rubber band, loop it over the top of the camera from the eyepiece for the viewfinder to the lobe in front of the flash. When you need flash, release the flasy and unhook the elastic fromt he front lobe and let it go under the raised flash unit and it will keep it up. If you case lets you, you can leave it that way. Not pretty but functional.

Flash will not pop up. Can you help?

If it releases but doesn't properly pop up then this may be the answer.

Flash will no longer pop up, it still flashes if i hold up the flash, and it pops up about 1/16th of an inch but no further ,how can this be fixed?

Hi,

This can be due to the flash mechanism being worn out.
Maybe you just have to change a spring but to be safe take it in to be checked out.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Short in start button

NO . What will happen is that the contacts on the momentary start switch will wear to the point of no longer making contact at which time the button will no longer work.

Fuji s700 my flash is not popping up on auto and my camera is taking all dark pics

The flash on my S700 stopped popping up too. But I made a spring about 3/4 inch in diameter by 3/4 inch high with about 1 3/4 loops. I glued it right under the flash. It works quite well now.
