I don't think you Dell Laptop Model ha wireless built in on it, but you have a PC card Slot where in you can Either use that slot to insert a Wireless PC card on your system to make it run wireless or use a dongle which is can be purchased from "ISP's" internet service providers, Exampl AT&T they have a usb dongle that looks like a thumb drive but is for accessing wireless signals from AT&T

check this out this is documentation for the type of Dell you have http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latc640/en/index.htm ^_^

Hi. first is to verify whether you have a wireless card or not by going to the device manager from the control panel.

Expand the network adapter and check if your system came with a WLAN or wireless card. If it's a Dell True Mobile wireless card, you can download the latest driver from this link:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R69905&SystemID=LAT_PNT_P4N_C640&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2491&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=2&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=0&libid=5&typeid=-1&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=90951

then try connecting to your router by right-clicking the network icon from the taskbar (lower right-hand corner of your screen) then select view available networks and if you see your network there, click it and then connect.

Using Pro/Wireless 2200BG with Latitude C640?

OK generally if you have the drivers and it fits in the slot than there is NO reason why it would not work. As for software, one goes to the manufacturers web site and download relevant drivers, & install.

Dell c640 wireless connectivity problem

hi.
That's gonna be a permissions problem in the way the wireless device was set up originally. Go to network devices, properties (of the wireless connection) and check advanced options for permissions. Also check the way the firewall was set up, and if it allows the connection you are requiring.
Good luck

Dell C640 wireless not working

I used Everest home edition to find the wireless drivers for my DELL C640 laptop.   The wireless card in it is an  ntel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B MiniPCI Adapter (IBM). I've downloaded the wireless driver from Intel's website, here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=944&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional〈=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!#DRI
It's the 3rd result in that search page. If the link doesn't work, simply search for Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection on Intel's site.
That Dell C640 wireless driver works fine for me, I'm using the wireless card to type this :)
good luck!
