I have taken it apart and believe it to be the inverter. The caps look like they are "crowning" on top, but our local radio shack does not have the caps in stock. Does anyone know where to get a replacement inverter?

Jun 06, 2010 - Thanks for the reply. I received and replaced all 9 caps (5 of the 470 and 4 of he 220 micro farads). I turned the monitor on and it seemed 'normal'. I got the no signal box, then I connected it to my laptop and the screen appeared. The it stated it was going to Auto Adjust, then it went blank. Now, the power light is on (I can turn it off), but nothing else is showing. When I disconnect the vga cable I do not even get the "no signal" box. If I unplug it and then plug it back in (with it connected to my laptop or desktop) the screen will flash very quickly (and I can tell that it is showing the what it should be, but then goes blank again. What is next to look at? Thanks.

The most common cause of flashing or wavy display is a weakened or failing power supply caused by bad capacitors. This is easy to repair. Here is a link to repair information for the power supply board.
bailerie, Gateway and most all other LCD displays DON'T know how to reboot! They have NO need to do that! You must tell me what you see when you RECONNECT FPD1960 to a already fully booted, KNOWN GOOD pc that is currently displaying the WIN-desktop! Then and only then power-up the 1960 unit and observe what is going on and for how long! The only guess I can make about this problem is this. The "switch-mode-power-supply" inside your monitor is cycling IN and OUT of SHUTDOWN MODE because it has detected a FAULT of some kind with another circuit or even with itself. I'm sorry to say that in today's electronics devices, there is not much support anymore when It comes to service parts.
In many cases the same boards have to be fixed if you want that device to be functional again.
Make sure your VGA cable is seated properly. If it is seated OK, it could be the start of a problem with a backlight. When a backlight goes bad, it typically shows up as pink/red color where white should be displayed.
