Hi. Try to remove the battery, unplug the ac adapter and press/hold the power button for 10 seconds then plug the ac adapter in. do not put thebattery back in yet. turn the computer on and see what will happen.

If nothing happens, your motherboard needs to be replaced.

Good Luck!

In a Sony vaio the Fujitsu hdd reports an error and is unable to boot. When I hook the hdd up to a different system the files are accessible and usable. (ex. You can play music that's on it). How can I...

When you connect the Fujitsu to the Sony laptop. use disk management utility to see how the how the sony is characterizing the Fujitsu. If you can access the files on the Fujitsu from another computer, the Fujitsu is not faulty. Your connection with the Sony is the problem. Disk management utility instructions are listed below:

Right click on you "My Computer" Icon

A menu will open

Chose "Manage"

The Computer Management window will open

The Computer Management window is broken down into 3 sections.

The first section on the left side of the window shows a menu. Disk Management is on the lower portion of the menu.

The right side is separated into two sections, top and bottom. The top portion shows a list of active drives on the computer. The lower portion shows all drives connected to the computer. CD or DVD drives that have not disk will not show as active drives on the top section, but can be seen in the lower section.

The lower section will show the drive description, drive size and drive condition (online or off line) in small box on the left side of that section. Disk drives will designate a "Drive" and a number. Drive 0 is usually your internal hard drive. Then it would list drive 1, drive 2, etc, depending on how many internal and external drive sources you have connected to your computer. Then it will list your CD drives and generally show their drive letter assignments.

Next to the smaller section described above, is a larger section which shows the driver letter, size of the driver and condition (if working correctly will show "healthy")

This is the area you can right click and get a menu that will allow you to open, explore, mark the partition as active, change the driver letter, format the drive or delete a partition. (A note of caution here. Changing the driver letter on your main hard drive partition will cause windows to stop functioning. The main hard drive, or hard drive partition, is normally given the letter "C".) A hard drive may show two or more partitions with separate drive letters designated for each partition.

A drive that is having a problem may show that it needs to be formatted (status as Unformatted). This can be done from this window. An external drive, whether it is a hard drive or CD/DVD drive, can have the letter designator change done if you want to organize your external drives. There are times when a drive will not show up because the drive letter that they are programmed to use are taken. Most USB drives are programmed to us the letters "F" or "G". In this area, you can assign the USB drive any drive letter that is not being used and this will make it visible in windows.
I hope that this information is helpful, if so, please rememeber to leave positive feedback.

Thank You,

Brian

Working on a friends laptop, the hard drive shows in bios but when trying to format it with windows xp it says there is no hard drive installed, it booted to the welcome screen before

Are you using the Fujitsu-supplied Windows XP Installation Media, or a "generic" Windows XP CD-ROM?

The "generic" version may be lacking the device-drivers for the SATA disk-drive,
and therefore cannot "find" the disk-drive.

Insert your Windows install CD and boot from it. When it asks you to select either install a new copy or Repair current OS. Select current OS, you might lose some data but it might fix the starting problem.

Ask your manufacturer Fujitsu for that special accessories so that what you can purchase is 100% compatible to your device. You can browse the website for info as well.

BLUE SCREEN STOP ERROR AND NO HARD DRIVE SHOWING

Sorry, but there's no real way to troubleshoot this without actually having the device. The problem you describe could be anything from a simple corrupted system32 driver or MBR (master boot record), to a hardware failure. The simplest thing you could try is to boot from your OS installation CD/DVD, reinstall the OS, and re-install your applications. Next would be to re-format the boot drive and restore your data from your most recent backup. Sorry I don't have better news for you.

Hard drive does not hold windows xp

When you install windows and it's shows you 1 or 2 partitions, it's asking you if you want to DELETE partition, - say yes and delete all partitions you have, so when you done deleting all you'll have ~ 79GB of UNPARTITIONED spase. Only then, format as NTFS and install Windows.
