That chip is known as a sound processor, not a sound amp but a processor. Nothing to do with the vertical.

My 65 inch sony tv half the screen is having colors like 3 d

Your Convergence ICs have failed. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless.

On power up I hold the power button down, I can hear some sort of relay kick-on, sometimes a horizontal white line appears across the screen, then it kicks-off, and the red led blinks four times...

Hi,
White line across the screen indicates that tv got vertical deflection failure problem that may be due to vertical output chip failure. If that kind of problem occurred, tv select protection mode and red light starts blinking 4 times.
Please check vertical output chip in tv main board and replace it to solve tv issue. This job needs soldering work so local tv repair shop will help you.
Thanks.

The TV wont turn on

It depends on your knowledge and skills to fix this tv problem.
Power light 4 times blink shows problem in vertical deflection section and most probably vertical output chip got defective or not getting proper voltage supply to function correctly.
Check vertical output IC connections on main board and resolder if found dry/ colder solder.
Hope these info will help you to fix tv problem.

Vega kdf-e55a20: All I see are Vertical colored lines across the entire screen. Could you tell me what the problem is and a potential solve?

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine, found the one you need here http://www.discount-merchant.com/SONY-1-788-156-11-p/1180225.htm?Click=48173 Have a blessed one!

Power light flashes 4 times

The 4 blink code usually indicates a loss of vertical deflection. Check the solder connections on the vertical IC. If the connections are OK, replace the chip as it is defective. This chip will be a small flat IC with about 1 pins or so attached to a heatsink. It will be marked LA3847 or something similar.

Keep us posted.

Green Convergence

Hello, I have the same problem and was told that I needed a new convergance chip. They told me who deals in the problems where I live, (TV Repairman) It will cost me 300 for a six year chip and 350 for a life time chip! I was told by the repairman that these chip only last up to 6 years if they are not lifetime. I see alot of this same problem going on right now. These tv were manufactured in 2001, but no one was ever told that these chip would need to be replaced in so few years after spending all that money on the TV. Pasonic would not tell me the price of the chip nor how to get one, were very unwilling to help with the problem other than telling me who do go to locally, so you would have to go thru a tv service where you are.
