Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I had lOADS of problems with my new PC (Vista) so my friend who was apparently a "computer expert" told me the best thing to do was KILL Vista and put on XP. As he builds his own PCs etc... I trusted him - FOOL THAT I AM!!!!! My PC will now not work as I've been told the components (ethernet connection and sound card - so far...) are Vista compatible and not XP so media player or broadband won't work. I've spoken to my "friend" who now doesn't know what to do which is really helpful. The company I bought the PC from will also not help as I've taken off Vista, therefore, vovoiding the warranty! PLEASE HELP ME.

XP loaded by PC expert to correct crashes - I need to reload the original Windows Vista - I do have the Vista Serial Number

Ok, so someone wiped your hard drive and installed XP on your Vista machine? Thats the best thing that could have happened to it in my opinion. :) The Vista serial # you speak of is most likely on the bottom of your machine. Once someone performs a reformat and new OS install the "restore" part of your drive is most likely gone forever. The only way to reinstall Vista at that point is to have a disk to do it with, then you will have to reinstall all the device drivers if it isnt an "upgrade" and will keep them intact..

You need make some changes in your computer before installing XP
1. On start up, press F2 to enter BIOS 2. Expand the "Drives" section 3. Go to "SATA Operation" 4. Change this from "RAID Auto/AHCI" to "RAID Auto/ATA"
You will be able to install XP now

Vista removed, XP put on. Now my PC won't work!

Hello there. This is true yes, some computer components require Windows Vista and its drivers to support the device. As XP is not working for you, you would need to re-install Vista from the installation DVD, many companies do not provide a DVD but instead provide their own software, this sometimes comes on disc but also can be a bootup option when you turn on your computer.

Really you need to get in contact with whoever you purchased the computer from, as your Vista was paid for and licensed to _you_
They will either be able to instruct you how to get Vista back on, or provide you with the necessary disc.

Hope this helps.

Chances are if you load the windows CD into the CD player it wil boot to the CD. You can opt to repair the current version of windows without a format. You will not loose your data.

Loading windows anytime upgrade

Hi, Unfortunately Microsoft has blundered and not told anyone. Most older programs will not run in VISTA. I hope you burnt your download to a CD, you could use it at a later date when Microsoft finaly put VISTA right. At this time you only have two choices. Buy all new software that is VISTA compatable or go back to the good old faithful XP. Regards mistyman
