I have a minn kota copilot that I have used for 4 years. When I went to hook up the battery after the winter this year, I hooked up the positive first and then as soon as I hooked up the ground the motor started to turn. I made sure the remotes were not the cause by taking out their batteries. I cleand the terminals also at the hookup at the motor. As soon as I touch the cable to the battery it starts to turn again. What Is wrong?

Reverse the polarity on the trolling motor by taking the trolling motor apart and turning ithe motor housingt 180 degrees and bolt it back up. The polarity will be straight then. I did the same thing when I pulled the armature back in.

VONNY MY MOTOR DOES THE SAME THING AND I FOUND THAT THE DUST OF THE MAGNETS IN THE HEAD WAS CAUSING THE MOTOR TO STICK I CLEANED INSIDE WITH ELECTRICAL CLEANER AND IT STARTED TO WORK FINE BUT YOU MAY HAVE SOMETHING ELSE GOING ON AND ALSO MAY SURE YOU ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY IF YOU JUST GOT THE BOAT

IF YOU HAVE CHECKED FOR WATER AND THE MOTOR UNIT IS DRY, DO YOU HEAR CLICKING COMING FROM YOUR MAIN CONTROL BOARD? IF SO THE MAIN BOARD WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.
