Question about Samsung HLP4674W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Please help I have the same model TV - thought is was the lamp so ordered a new one. It arrived - and still same issue. We thought the replacement bulb was bad - so returned for another one. SAME ISSUE, There is no picture on the screen and a buzzing noise that starts to diminish. ALso, all 3 lights blink - and the TV goes on and off on its own. Please, please help - the price of a technician is a lot of money and right now - things are very tight. The timing is horrible. Please email me back at [email protected] if you can be of any assistance Thank you. Thank you!

Antoniette, I had the same problem, however, I heard a noise like the shattering of glass. After replacing the lamp without resolution, I took the guts out only to find that the color wheel shattered. I ordered a new one myself for $90 and will attempt to replace it, it definitely beats the $450 service fee that I was going to be charged. At worse, I'll return the lamp and color wheel and contribute that $450 to a new 56" DLP with a 5-year warranty. You can find well documented instructions online, I used http://kploymp.net/dlp_cw.aspx.

KF42WE610 bad lamp... and ballast?

Hi,
DLP Lamp has electrodes inside and ballast generates high voltage that makes spark on these electrodes thus got high bright light. New lamp wont die due to bad ballast so replace lamp and see tv works or not.
This tv has self diagnostic feature, turn On tv and let it shut down, now check standby light that would be blinking in specific order, for example 3 or 4 times blink then pause for 3 seconds and again blinks.
Let me know how many times standby light blinking in this tv to help you with more info.
Thanks.

tip

DLP TV shuts down

If you find your DLP TV is shutting down intermittedly, it may be just a simple lamp gone bad. Follow your user guide to remove the lamp, check for visible damage or parts that have burst inside the lamp bulb itself, if so, go online to order a new lamp and replace it. Just enter your model number and the word "lamp" into the google search, order it and when it arrives, replace it the same way you took out the old one. Make sure you order the lamp "with housing" which is a little more expensive, but much easier to replace. Good luck!

Samsung SP50L6HX, I replaced the Lamp but still nothing.

Hi, Samsung haves a known issue with the ballast, once you make a replacement of the lamp, sometimes its harder to ignite a new lamp that has 100% of gas inside than igniting a old lamp that has maybe 60% or 50% of gas inside. Just in order to ignite the lamp, the ballast needs to send some High Pulses of Voltage, as high as 15 kV (that is the constant clicking sound that you are hearing). In order to resolve this you need to change the Ballast Board. I tried to look for your ballast with your TV Model # at samsungparts.com , but nothing showed up. You will need to find out which ballast part # you have in order to find it online. To locate the ballast part # please check the end of this video, you only need to take the lower back cover of TV off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q
Here is a link of a ballast I found http://www.discount-merchant.com/SAMSUNG-9137-008-08905-Lamp-Ballast-Driver-p/1138231.htm?Click=49915

Lamp failure indicator

I had the same issue when replacing my lamp for the first time. I replace just the bulb with the Phillips replacement bulb. After installing the power down issue started and it would take up to 7 attempts before the TV would stay on with a picture.

Since I never had this problem until i replaced the bulb i decided to send the new bulb back and replace it with a difference one. In my opinion replacement parts are never made to the same standard as original OEM parts. This TV is definitely very temperamental in regard to the bulbs.

When the second replacement bulb arrived I decided to not only replace the bulb I also cleaned the connector plug in the cartridge with a QTip and alcohol. I did the same for the plug receptor in the TV.

When I replaced the bulb i insured the the top of bulb lettering was facing the handle of the cartridge so when you put the cartridge back in the TV the top of the bulb would be facing you.

I also cleaned the entire inside of the TV where the cartridge is inserted including the screws.

Once I did all this the TV turned on the first time and has been working fine for three days now.

I do believe the replacement bulb position is very important as to how it heats up and determines when it needs to cool.

I hope this helps others with the same success i had because I really do not want to replace this TV and start replacing all the parts others have done with little to no success for this issue.

SAMSUNG TV MODEL HLR5067W

Sounds like the lamp to me. The projection lamps get hotter as they age and the TVs have a sensor to monitor the temp and shutdown the TV if it get too high
Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to buy just the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. Really easy.

Sony 60' projection model # kdfe60a20

I finally wet out and bought the tv repair manual. Thought the problem had to be more than the bulb because i was losing sound too. Everything in hte repair manual brought me to the bulb or the ballast. I ordered a replacemant bulb. I spent about 150, which included overnight shipping. I replaced the bulb just before Thanksgiving and haven't had any problems as of yet....

New Lamp or not New Lamp

Do a continuity check on the thermal fuse coming off of connector P1701-P1707, I believe. If it's open, replace it. It's housed right above the lamp on the light engine.
