We bought a new computer and are trying to connect the printer but it won't respond.

is the printer plugged into computer via usb port or normal paralel port in back of computer check its in the right place and check the cable is in printer properly and also computer then the best way to see if its recognised is goto start bottom left then acess control panel on left hand side change it to classic view just under where it says control panel it might all ready be classic view if it is then select add hardware then dont click have disk then the computer will scan for all hardware connected to it when its finished scroll down list and see if your printer is listed if it is click it.
it will then ask if you have disk if you do insert it and click ok if you dont then uncheck the box have disk then your computer will scan for correct drivers for the printer ok
Make sure printer is plugged in and on whilst doing this ok then you should find you have no problems.

If it is your first time using your printer, then you need to install the driver for it to work.

If you have used your printer without any problem before then, there are two possible reasons why your printer/scanner is having that issue:

1. Connection error
2. Driver problem

First thing's first. Restart your computer and your printer. there are times that computers and printers just need a restart for it to work. Yes, it's strange but it's how things work with machines. They need rebooting to work smoothly.

If rebooting your computer and printer won't fix the problem. Here are the things that you can do.

1. Connection error:
a. Turn off your printer and turn it back on. Try scanning, if no go.. proceed to step b.

b. Unplug your printer from your computer and unplug it's power cord and press and hold the printer's power button to 5-8 seconds to completely drain the power. Plug it back in to the wall outlet leaving the connection between your computer and the printer still unplugged. wait until your printer completely turns on. Plug it to your computer and do the scanning process.

If all steps above don't work, then you need to check the driver.

Uinstall the driver of your computer by going to the control panel. After uinstalling it, then reinstall it by using the dvd that came with your printer. Follow the on-screen instructions and try scanning. It should work.

Printer not responding

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

This used to happen all the time when I had one. The best thing to do is to completely uninstall the printer and all it's added programs from your computer.
Switch off the computer and let cool down (have a cup of coffee) Now reboot the computer and then reinstall the printer and follow instructions to connect via Wi Fi
If this works make sure auto update is switched OFF as every time mine was updated your problem occurred. Installed the printer but it is nopt responding

The problem is that you are using an usb hub, connect the printer directly to he computer, by using a splitter it weakens the voltage and the data does not get to the device, try getting a new hub with a voltage booster.

All in one will not respond


First off, the printer will not function properly if its communication emblical is not connected to the pc. The pc houses all of the driver and driver commands for the unit. It absolutely needs this connection. Try this once, don't use the install cd that came with the unit, instead let's do this:
Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop. Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done
