O heck my camera too went like this, it turned out to be the lamp in the camera that lights up both camera screens, everything looked really dark with out that like, and wow not cheap mend for me, as they charge a bit for the bulb about £4 in UK, but the man who does the job must be paid around £60 per hour, and that hurt, now do you need a box of hankies as I still got couple left.
This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.
