Procedure how to reset the error 46 error (unable to clean). This can
be done on every Brother inkjet machine with a numeric keypad.
- Machine off - Switch on the machine while holding down the “menu”button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode. - press 80 - press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx” - press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000” - press the "stop" button. - press “99” to exit the maintenance mode.
Now you are able to print again, but actually your ink absorber box is now full with ink. Ink flooding can happen if you don’t replace this ink box!
2.The area on the printer the ink cartridge jet holes line up with? Plus after doing so insuring that both areas were dry?
You may have ink dried up in those tiny jet holes. A hairdryer set to low heat, and constantly moving back, and forth when using it to dry these areas, helps too. (After using the Isopropyl alcohol method. Use CAUTION as Isopropyl alcohol is Flammable! I know, DUH! But it has to be stated.
I use a clean, lint-free cloth, and warm water. Wring the warm water out until the cloth is just lightly damp. BE SURE those above mentioned areas are dry, before reinstalling the ink cartridges!)
3.MFC-3240C off, and unplugged? (Opening the cover, and closing it helps to remove error codes, as it will reset itself. Unplugging from power, replugging in, and turning on does also. You may still have the error code of unable to clean, because it hasn't be cleared)
Clean unable 46 means that the ink tank is full. You need a replacement tank installed and the count reset. This is a holder inside for the used ink, best to be a shop repair.
