Have you checked the fuse, there is fuse for just the tail lamps. If it was isolated to brake lights only, I would suggest the switch attached to the brake pedal.
The most likely problem is two burned out light bulbs. A burned out tail/stop lamp on the right side and a burned out brake lamp on the left. If you have already replaced the bulbs, then yes, the circuit boards are the next most likely cause of the problem.
They are right. The bulb has 2 filaments. One for the brake and one for the running light. One of the filaments has burned out. You only need to replace the bulb. The bulbs are inexpensive. It's just a maintainence thing. Not to worry all light bulbs burn out eventually. It's an easy fix.
Many Grand Cherokees have had this type of issue. The thread is lengthy, but does cover just about every type of issue known with the tail/brake lights.
the driver information center(DIC) is telling you one or more of your rear light bulbs has failed. it could be a tail light, stop light, center high mount stop light, turn signal or license plate light. have someone in the vehicle turn the lights on and hit the brakes and turn signals so you can see which one is burned out.
Remove screws for lens. You may have to access them from inside the hatch. Then pull out lens, then turn and pull out bulb and socket, Push and turn then pull bulb out.
2001 jeep grand cherokee left brake does not work period. I replaced bulb to no avail. the entire tail lamp assembly looked brown as though it heated up. However, the tail light, signal light and back-up lights still work. Please help. Mike.
Sounds like one of two possibilites, the light itself may be a double filiament meaning there is one bulb which does both tail light and brake. One of the filiaments in the bulb could be burned out, try changing the bulb. If not that, then the realy might be damaged which gives power to the tail light. It's a bit of a bigger problem to diagnose.
Check the relays associated with the tail lights, I believe that the tail light relay and the turn signal relay are two different entities. Hopefully that helps.
