Remove cover from igniter (follow thin wire from electrode, back to it) and test for 12 VDC at + terminal on igniter box. If you have 12 volts at + terminal, replace igniter box.

Turn the refrigerator off and remove the wire between the electrode and igniter. Now turn the refrigerator to the gas mode. If no internal clicking sound is heard the igniter is defective. It is important to remove the high voltage wire that goes to the electrode from the igniter when you are checking the igniter for operation. The high voltage wire and the electrode can be shorted to ground causing the igniter reigniter to think that the flame is lit, resulting in no spark on gas operation.
It will not light manually as the ignition probe is electronically controlled. If it doesn't stay lit normally then it will more then likely not stay lit when trying to light manually.
Sounds like you have several issues. One, the flame not staying on is probably due to the igniter not sensing the presence of the flame. Clean the end of the igniter and make sure that the gap between the tip of the igniter and the flame tube is approximately 1/8". If this does not correct the issue then the flame not staying on and the cooling may be the result of a bad board. If it does stay lit and still does not cool then you may have a bad thermistor. To the bottom left of the refrigerator you will see a black covered circuit board. Remove the cover and to the upper left of the board you will see two harness plugs. Unplug the lower harness that has two wires in it and let it run for 24 hours. If is does not cool down then you have a bad cooling unit. If it does cool down then you have a bad thermistor.
what is the yellow residue around heating element? my fridge just isnt working right and sometimes stops all together, the freezer worked until lastnight but fridge hasnt cooled right for a week or so.
use a set of needle nose pliers & disconnect the igniter wire the module should start clicking if it does not click check the wires to the board clean them good & reconnect if the module still wont start clicking your board is bad if it does click the igniter adjustment off stick a nickle between the igniter & burner the gap should be the size of the nickle 3/16"
The part you are looking for is the thermo couple. It senses the heat from the flame and holds the gas valve open. The clicking will try three times and then go into lock out. You then will need to reset on the front of the fridge. When installing the thermo couple do not over tighten.
