many, many. Is the outside unit running? If it is, is the compressor running? Feel the refrigerant lines leaving the unit. Little one should be warm. Big one should be cold, probably sweating.
central air or window unit? central systems use a low/high pressure limit switches which self reset when pressures are nominal. suction about 50-60, high pressures around 300.
if the unit has cooled fine in the past then it is most likely dirty you need to look at the return side of coil, you may be able to look thur your return grill.if it is dirty it is best to call a a/c service company to clean it for you, what ever you do,Do Not clean with a brush it can damage the coil and cost a lot to replace.also check your suction line at outside unit,it the big line it should be sweating if not it can be low of freon. Average cost to pull and clean a coil is about 375.00 no more then that.
your indoor unit is only circulating the air in the house. for your condensing unit. check your breaker in the electric panel. your contactor or your capacitor.
I have some things for you to check. If you look at the outside unit the lines going into the house. Are they frozen? Have you had any yard work done, the reason I ask is they could have accidentally cut or pulled out the thermostat wires to the ac unit. Also, inside check for the same thing, frozen lines. Also, you may want to check the drain coming from the inside unit, it may be clogged.
