How do I fix my Rival Shot Of Steam Iron ES280 please? Indicator light does not come on and it is not heating up.

There are a few things you can try to fix your Rival Shot Of Steam Iron ES280 if the indicator light is not coming on and it is not heating up:
  1. Check the power source - Make sure the iron is properly plugged in and that the outlet is working.
  2. Check the temperature setting - Make sure the temperature setting is appropriate for the type of fabric you are ironing. If the setting is too low, the iron may not heat up.
  3. Check the cord and plug - Make sure the cord is not damaged and that the plug is properly connected to the outlet.
  4. Check the fuse or circuit breaker - If the fuse or circuit breaker has tripped, the iron may not be receiving power.
  5. Reset the iron - You can try resetting the iron by unplugging it from the wall and plug

My Black & Decker Even-Tempered iron is plugged in, and it won't turn off. I can't unplug it.

It sounds like your even-tempered iron is in a bad temper! I can think of no reason that you couldn't pull the plug from the wall socket.

There is no iron of that model name, so I am puzzled by whole thing in your 'Anonymous' post.

Disconnect the power at the breaker. Cut the wire with side cutters and throw the iron in the bin. Remove the wall socket from the wall and replace with a new one and throw that in the bin as well. Buy a new Rowenta next time.

The plug and wire near the plug on my Rowenta iron gets very hot when I use it

The plug is not making proper contact in the wall socket. Clean the pins with steel wool or pot scourer. Do not use water. If you are using a double adapter remove it as it could be the cause of the poor contact. If the problem persist, try a different wall socket and get a qualified person to fix the faulty wall socket.

When I plugged iron in sparks came out at wall and iron where the cord connects.

Hi,

If you've had this iron for a while it sounds like the cord may be frayed.
switch it off at the wall and unplug it, check the cord for wear, if the insulation is frayed, torn or broken and there are black burn marks on the cord where you saw sparks then the cord needs to be replaced.
DONT plug the iron back in until the cord is replaced.

Otherwise If there are no breaks or black burn marks on the cord, then your power point may be faulty and needs to be replaced!

I hope this was helpful

The iron will not turn on. i tryed a different location to plug it in and nothing happens.

Possible that the power cord is faulty if there is no indication at the iron. use a multimeter to check the continuity from the plug to the iron heating coil element.
it is possible that the coil has opened or the thermostat is defective.

My iron will not heat when plugged into to the wall socket. Tried different places. Light comes on but won't heat. press to reset light stays on.

try opening the iron and see if the wires are connected to the thermostat/heating element, if not you can easily tie them again, it sometimes happens when the thermostat fails to open the circuit and the heating elements over heat and causes a break in the line or heating element.

MY Rowenta Superpress 050 iron is not getting hot. Thank you.

The first thing to check is the electric socket outlet the iron is plugged in to.
Plug something in that you know is working o/k ,this will prove whether it is the socket or the iron.
If the socket is o/k then the next thing to check is the plug on the iron.
Undo the plug if it has a removeable cover, and check that the connections are good, and check the fuse if it has one, if you are not sure about the fuse, then change it for one that you know is o/k.
If it is a sealed plug then check the electric cord is not chafed or broken near the plug.

Check the cord at the point where it goes into the iron also.

If you are satisfied that all is o/k then the fault is in the iron.
I do recommend that you proceed no furher, unless you are fully competent with electrics, and know what you are doing.
If you are satisfied that it is faulty. It is usually cheaper to buy a new iron, rather than trying to repair it.
Hope my comments are of help to you.
Cheers.

Will not light and will not heat up

Problems like this assume the iron is at fault. but may not be.

Check the wall socket you are using works with other appliances.

If you use the iron via an extension lead, check that the lead is working by checking with another appliance also.

Take out the fuse in the plug of the iron and put into another appliance to test its working and not fused.

Only if all is well at this point should you bin the iron.

Flat 'hot plate' irons are so cheap nowadays, so bin it and get an new one. The best are steam generator irons with a reservoir of water container attached. Mine cost £30/$60 so spend wisely.

How to use the calc-clean button

Calc-Clean function
The Calc-Clean function removes scale and impurities.

To do so, set the steam control to position '0', set the temperature dial to 'MAX', and fill water tank up to the 'MAX' level. Then heat up the iron until the pilot light on the handgrip goes out.

Remove the mains plug from the wall socket and hold the iron horizontally over the sink. Then press and hold down the 'CALC CLEAN' button.

Move the iron forwards and backwards while boiling water/steam squirt from the holes in the soleplate to wash away impurities/scales.

When the water tank is empty, heat up the iron to dry it.

Finally move the iron to and fro on a piece of cloth to dry the soleplate. Repeat the process if necessary
