Replace the flywheel key by removing the rewind housing, the flywheel nut and then remove the flywheel by using a small engine universal puller (cheap) and install a new key.

How to remove spark plug

I have attached an article about how to change the spark plug on a walk behind mower.

The directions should be roughly the same despite the difference in brand and model.

I hope this helps!

Toro 6.5 HP Self propelled walk behind 22

take the top cover off the engine. you will see the coil on top there. unplug the wire that plugs into it. put the cover back on and try to start it. if it starts it is not the coil. try a different spark plug first. pull the cord with the plug out to get all the gas out of the engine.

Lawn Mower runs rough & dies has black sooty spark plugs

A good place to start would be to remove air cleaner assembly and give it a good wash and service and take a close look at choke assembly/lever to be sure it isn't sticking in on position, while trying to run it with air filter off..

My MTD walk behind lawn mower won't start. There's gas and spark (I think---when I looked at spark plug, it was pretty dirty and had a lot of dark greasy residue on it so I cleaned it off, but it still...

Make sure you have fresh clean fuel in the mower. Has the mower been setting for a while? Make sure your air cleaner is not plugged. Try starting with fresh fuel and the air cleaner off. Let me know if the cord tries to pull back or you have hit anything with the mower blade recently.

I have an old Craftsman 6.75 hp walk behind

Not sure where to look for the model number. But here's a few things to check.
1. If the gas is old (from last year), drain it out of the tank, carb and lines and replace with fresh. Gas can go bad and won't ignite properly after it has been around too long.
2. Replace the spark plug.... sometimes they look good and aren't.
3. Clean the Air filter. Take the filter element out of the housing and give it a good cleaning with compressed air. If it's plugged up with debris and dust, your trimmer won't run.
4. Make sure the oil level is correct. Many of the current motors won't run if the oil is low.
hope this help ya

My walk behind mower wont start..has no spark with new plug or old one could it be a rusty magneto

Rust on the magneto has no bearing on the output of a spark. The magneto or the points if it has them could be the problem. If the unit has points they may be under the flywheel. If so equiped, that would be the logical place to start. If no points, I would replace the magneto. When you place the new one on, place a piece of paper between the flywheel and the magneto. When you tighten the magneto, pull out the paper and turn the flywheel by hand. If the magneto turns without touching, put everything together and try it out. Good luck...Lee
