I turn on my camera that has full battery and if it is on the fav then it will show the pictures however if it is on auto then the lens will come out then go back in 3seconds later
Sounds like sand in the lens cavity. Use a fully charged battery, then lie the camera flat face down on the floor, ideally a carpet. With the camera OFF, lens face down with the carpet, switch the camera on. It will take a number of go's to release the **** stuck in it.
Mine took atleast 15 go's. Better than chucking the camera out, and saved atleast 80 dollars and a trip to Germany!

I actually pulled on the lens, after turning it on and before it auto turned off. The camera still turned off, but I was able to extend the lens before it did.
I then powered it back on and the lens stayed out and the camera stayed on. I power cycled it a few times and it works like a champ.
Thanks for the suggestion Stephan.
