Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower/weedeater is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws and count the number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns they were in/out.

Good Luck, I hope this helped
First, I need to know... IS there a spark at the plugZ? To find this out unplug the spark plug wire from the plug. Insert another plug (or take the one in it out) and lay that against the metal head of the lawn mower, so that you can observe the gap portion of the plug to see if there is a spark leaping across the gap when you pull the pull start. If ther is a spark then your issue is with fuel, not with the electrical. There should be a little plastic red bubble looking thing on the side of the carberator. Thisa rubber ball thing should be pressed in three times to prime the engine. Set your choke on, squeeze the lever on the push handle of the mower while you pull the pulley. The lawn mower should start up after two or three good pulls. Make sure that you do not pull so hard that yuou accidently pull the deck over yor foot and the blade start to spin while chopping your foot off!! Excercise extreme caution!!
My 21inch MTD Yard Machine has the cord stuck. I turned the mower over to empty out excess oil and when I tried to start it thw cord is wrapped around to tight and does not pull. Any ideas?
