SMCP- means: Super MultiCoated Pentax (a term that refers to the anti-relctive coatings that Pentax has been using on its lenses for years F-means it is a lens designed to cover the larger area required of a lens for Film camera use versus the smaller sensor of the Digital SLRs Pentax also makes.
