You dont say what was wrong when you said it was being 'fixed' and a Hard Drive and/ or CD added.
Has it been updated to V1.24 software which fixes a bug in hard drives formatting ? As per the release notes.

I would very much doubt there is problem with the IDE interface UNLESS this was the original reason you were having it fixed.
I would take it to the AUTHORISED AKAI PRO Dealer to have it inspected.and a PROPER understandable report given to you if the Machine still won't accept a Hard Drive or a CD mechanism.
