Liftgate Release Not Working on a 2000 GMC Jimmy

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy and the liftgate release is not working. Whenever I push the rear hatch button (located on the front console), I hear a sound but the gate is not unlocked. If I push the exterior button on the gate, it makes the same sound. How can I open the liftgate? The owner's manual mentions a manual release mechanism. However, I do not want to cut the carpet.

SOURCE: 2003 Saturn Vue rear liftgate won't open

The easy part is you just need the latch for the liftgate. The hard part is getting to it and opening the liftgate to replace the latch. You should be able to pull the liftgate trim off most of the way with the gate closed and try to manually actuate the latch to open the gate. You may have to go so far as breaking the latch from the inside to open the gate and then replace your latch.

SOURCE: How do you get liftgate open on a 97 Laredo with a broken lock?

You need to remove the panel from the liftgate and unlock and open it manually at the latch. It is not fun, but you can get the panel off with the hatch closed.

SOURCE: My 2003 LIncoln Navigator liftgate is not working.

check relay and fuses, make sure that automatic liftgate is on. You will have to to the command center and go through the defaults and make sure that the system is on. if you are not comfortable doing that, disconnect battery for approximate ten minutes, this will reset the system defaults.

2010 GMC Yukon, back hatch window opens by itself - particularly as the driver door is opened or if the engine starts.

Liftgate Window
The liftglass can be released placing the transmission in P (park), unlocking all the doors and then pressing the liftgate window release switch located next to the license plate light. The BCM monitors the liftglass release signal circuit and when the switch is pressed, the voltage drops below 1 V. When the BCM detects the voltage drop, it will send a liftglass release command to the rear window wiper motor which will provide voltage to the liftgate window latch assembly and will activate the liftgate window release actuator to release the liftglass

I would take it to a qualified repair shop that has a professional type scanner that can view BCM DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes an can view rear hatch switch input data
DTC B3265 00: Trunk/Hatch/Liftglass Release Output Circuit

The liftglass release switch is an input to the body control module (BCM). The BCM supplies battery voltage to the signal circuit and when the release switch is activated the signal circuit voltage goes low. The BCM controls the liftglass release actuator through the rear wiper motor control module. When the release switch signal is activated the BCM applies battery voltage to the liftglass latch release signal circuit. The rear wiper motor control module supplies voltage to the release actuator through the liftglass release actuator control circuit.

2007 HHR rear hatch will not unlock

Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuits ? Viewing wiring diagrams an using a DMM - digital multi-meter . Looking at a wiring diagram I see a relay ,L/GATE RELSE relay - # 18 underhood fuse box . It's controlled by the BCM - body contol module . The liftgate release switch is a input to the BCM . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size. Under system click on body & accessories ,then under subsystem click on tailgate release . Click the search button then the first blue link.

Pressing the Liftgate Release Switch closes a contact providing a ground for the Liftgate Release Switch Signal circuit. The BCM will detect the voltage drop and command voltage to be supplied to the Liftgate Release Relay Control circuit thus energizing the LIFTGATE RELEASE Relay which provides voltage to the Release Actuator releasing the liftgate.

Do you know what a DTC - diagnostic trouble code is ?
DTC B3265 01: Hatch Release Output Circuit Short to Battery
DTC B3265 06: Hatch Release Output Circuit Short to Ground or Open

B3265 01
This DTC will set when the BCM detects a short to battery in the liftgate release relay control circuit.
B3265 06
This DTC will set when the BCM detects an open or short to ground in the liftgate release relay control circuit.

2008 MKX rear hatch will not opprat with buttons.Hatch was stoped when closing and now will only open by hand, but does have power.

Hatch or liftgate ?
Liftgate Release
The liftgate release switch operates the liftgate latch electronically. When the switch is pressed, the SJB processes the input and releases the liftgate latch.
The doors must be unlocked electronically in order for the SJB to release the liftgate latch. When this condition is met and the SJB receives the input from the liftgate release switch, the SJB provides power to the latch release motor.

SJB - smart junction box , fords BCM - body control module .
Your best bet , take it to the dealer .
B2666 Liftgate Release Switch Circuit Failure Go To Pinpoint Test I . B273A Liftgate Release Output Circuit Shorted to Ground Go To Pinpoint Test I . B273B Liftgate Release Output Circuit Open or Shorted to Battery Voltage Go To Pinpoint Test I .

2009 hhr hatch wouldn't lock so I removed #11 fuse and I found info on it in thr forum. But without the #11 fuse it won't unlock at all. Battery is good. Has anyone had the same issue?

Rear Liftgate Release
The liftgate can be released by operating the liftgate release switch. The gear selector may be in any position, but the doors must be unlocked and the vehicle must be stationary for the liftgate to release.
Pressing the liftgate release switch closes a contact providing a ground for the liftgate release switch signal circuit. The body control module (BCM) will detect the voltage drop and command a ground to be supplied to the liftgate release relay control circuit thus energizing the L/GATE RELSE relay which provides voltage to the liftgate latch. When the doors are locked, the BCM will disable the liftgate release system by ignoring the liftgate release switch input command and not providing a ground for the L/GATE RELSE relay.

Fuse # 10 - 20 amp supply's B+ voltage to the L/GATE RELSE relay located in the under hood fuse/relay box.
The BCM controls this relay from input from lift gate release switch.

Fuse #11 is 11

Back window is stuck

First be sure the auto-lock is not on and that the entire liftgate can be opened.

Look for the small rubber button above and on the right side of the license plate. Try pushing that button to see if the rear window hatch pops.

If these efforts don't work, check the fuse associated with the "luggage compartment lid release switch"... it's a 20 amp fuse possibly located in slot 22.

A last resort would be removing the interior panel of the liftgate and locating the latch release for the hatch. You can find a schematic of the rear liftgate in an Internet search. Good luck!

Volvo xc90 rear hatch door closed and won't open

Hold the hatch hard closed into its frame whilst pulling on the release handle. The mechanism on most cars consists a grab/release on the door and a simple metal hop at the bottom of the frame. Over time the hoop can become loose and move slightly inwards each time the door is shut. The door seal rubbers push back on the door surround putting a lot of tension against the grab/release mechanism preventing it from releasing. By pressing on the door and compressing the rubber surround you will take the pressure off the release mechanism and allow it to open when you pull on the handle. Once the door hatch is open, loosen the mounting bolts to the metal hoop and move it out about 10mm. Tighten the mounting bolts. Shut the door gently as a trial close and check for security of fit. If very slack, ease the hoop inwards a couple of millimetres. When happy, tighten the mounting bolts securely. draw around the hoop mount with indelible ink so if it moves in future you have early visual warning and can remount it easily

I have a 2000 gmc jimmy and the electrical release won't work.

The solenoid that releases the glass latch is probably stuck (corroded, warn out, needs lubricating, etc.). You will need to remove the rear gate inside panel to see what's wrong and manually release the latch, and then likely replace the latching mechanism.
