METZ 60 CT-4 batteries and capacitors

I need new dryfit batteries, and also the capacitor. Are these parts still available? My Metz 60 CT-4 are about 20yrs old. Thanks.

The flash capacitor is custom part. It has a value of about 3000uF,360V to store about 200Joules. You could use any capacitor which will fit and has correct voltage rating but flash photo flash capacitors have higher current rating than normal capacitors and have high volume efficiency so life might be reduced. If the capacitance is lower than 3000uF the GN of flash will be reduced proportionately, but everything will still work. So for example with 1500uF, guide number would be half. The power units are available cheaply used nowdays if you can find a working unit. Sonnenschein still makes batteries that fit,and there are some ebay sellers who were selling LiFePO4 batteries that are much better than the original lead acid batteries that are drop in replacements and even charge with lead acid setting in unit.

Although you can still get lead acid batteries from Sonnenschein (the original oem manufacturer) for the Metz CT60 units, a better choice are the Lithium ferrite phosphate or Lithium ion batteries, now available on ebay. For example sales8phd on ebay sells a drop in replacement 6 or 7Ah battery with a charger for ~$75. In general these batteries produce more flashes per charge than the lead acid oem batteries, particularly when shooting a lot of flashes in rapid sucession.

There's a lot available on Ebay. Search for 'Metz 60'. Good luck.

Not sure what i need to use the mecablitz 60 ct-4 w/ my Nikon d-100

I just bought a D100 (as a backup to a D200 - nothing like being up to date with current technology! B^)). As I understand it, there is no integral flash sync connector on them. You need to get an AS-15 accessory shoe adaptor which goes on the hot shoe, and has a pc sync connector (like the D200 has on the side of the main body). Then you use a standard Metz sync cable to attach to that. The Metz 60 CT flashes have a low voltage trigger circuit and so should be safe with any camera.

I have a Metz 60CT4, I've had it for years and it

A new dryfit battery is delivered fully loaded. So you will not have to charge it the first time. My 5 year old dryfit battery still is holding enough energy to help me through the darker moments. I have it charged now once after an average of 400/500 flash pictures (when do you need full power with this flash?), which is every two to three weeks (normal hobby use).

Metz 45 CT-1 Outup Calibration

During the flash impulse the "photocell", actually a phototransistor, charges a capacitor with current, proportional to the reflected light intensity. As soon as the voltage on that capacitor reaches the trigger voltage of a four-layer diode (which, in fact, is playing a role of a PUT) that turns on and triggers the quench thyristor. There is a trimmer potentiometer in the four-layer diode circuitry, which sets the trigger voltage. You can try to fiddling with that. But the culprit of the misalignment easily can be in any of the parts in the above described circuitry.

Metz 60-4 flash takes much longer than normal for the ready light to come on to allow me to take another photo.

It is likely the capacitor in the battery pack. If they are not powered up every month, they dry out resulting in long power up and recycle times. You'll need to get it replaced to rejuvenate your 60 CT-4 to its original spec.
