Hello,

The power light may be flashing or if you are runing with a series light bulb it may be cycling on and off continuously. There may be a chirping or clicking sound from inside the set. (Note: using too small a series light bulb load during testing for the size of the TV may also result in this condition.)

If there is a low voltage regulator or separate switching supply, it could be cycling on and off if the horizontal output, flyback, or one of its secondary loads were defective.

Does this TV have a separate low voltage regulator and/or switching power supply or is it all part of the flyback circuit? For the following, I assume it is all in one (most common).

Some simple things to try first:

Verify that the main filter capacitor is doing its job. Excessive ripple on the rectified line voltage bus can cause various forms of shutdown behavior. An easy test is to jumper across the capacitor with one of at least equal voltage rating and similar capacitance (make connections with power off!).

Use a Variac, if possible, to bring up the input voltage slowly and see if the TV works at any point without shutting down. If it does, this could be an indication of X-ray protection circuit kicking in, though this will usually latch and keep the set shut off if excessive High Voltage were detected.

What can be wrong

Hello,
Is the t.v new or its been some years that you bought it?Have you checked the DC voltages leaving the power supply? If not, let's try that now.

Put your red lead on each pin leaving the power supply one at a time, with your black lead on any exposed chassis metal for ground. Stick that red lead down into the connector so the lead makes contact with the pin.

Be sure the TV is turned on.

It can be a fault in the screen if it is under warranty i suggest you contact the shop or supplier.

Best regards,
Daniel

TV turns off and immediately on again, by itself.

sounds like a defective str power regulator ic .......but my advice get a tech to resolder all the pins at the power suppy board area, there may be some open pins that triggers the on and off episodes

When I power up thr TV it immediately poers back down BEFORE the screen shows a 'picture'.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it sounds like the "over voltage protect circuit" is doing its job. There is a 130 volt regulator circuit in the power supply that limits the high voltage to around 30,000 volts at the second anode of the picture tube which limits the x-rays emitted from the crt. If the regulator fails, there is this over voltage protect circuit, which immediately shuts down the power supply and the TV. Turning off the TV resets the protect circuit. Turning the set back on, will cause the protect circuit to engage again. If you're competent in electronics, it is possible to aquire the parts and do a successful repair for under $20.00 in parts, but beware, there are a lot of dishonest people out there ready to take your money. Hope this helps! Dano

Picture & sound go on & off every sec, red light blinks 5 times

helloFive blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.

Tv powered off and will not stay on. keeps powering off

Not an easy one this. But modern TV's monitor themselves if there is something it doesn't like eg power supply not giving the correct voltage, the TV will shut down. Not really a solution !
