Replacing the roll out switch is an easy do-it-yourself repair. Fixing the problem causing the roll out of the burner flames in the first place is a bit more of a pro job. Something is causing to much heat to roll out the the combustion chamber into the control area causing the switch to fail. You will continue to burn the link until the underlying problem is fixed.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

How to repair a Raypack pool heater that displays a ROL fault code?

simply replacing the roll out fuse wont solve your problem. those safeties open from an over temp situation or negative pressure down draft. clean out any dirt and debri from venting, inspect the underside of heat exchanger for build up or soot. ensure you have proper combustion/ventilation air openings if heater is in a shed. if heater is outdoors, Raypack is notorious for getting downdrafts back down the draft hood causing burner flames to come outside the burner box

I have a Rheem raypack pool and spa heater. I have an error message in the display: "ROL". Can you please describe the issue and possible solutions. Thanks, Stan.

Error Code ROL is "HEAT ROLL-OUT SAFETY SWITCH OPEN". The heater is equipped with a cutoff device to prevent flame roll-out in the event the heat exchanger becomes blocked. This is either a "manual reset", or "Single-use" type fusible link/thermal fuse, that must be replaced or reset after any over temperature conditions have been fixed. Excessive restriction in the heat exchanger flue passage may cause the switch to disable the heater. I don't know your exact model so I'm just generalizing. If you reset or replace the switch, and it trips/burns out again, then you need to address what is causing it. make sure the heater is cleaned out well and no debris is blocking the flue. I fthis doesn't help you can always try calling Raypak Service department at (805) 278-5300.

ROl Code is on, and heater won't fire

his indicates the flame roll out safety switch is bad. This part is usually mounted right above the burner tray. It is a white ceramic piece with two wiring terminals and an external part that looks like a resistor. This part detects flame/heat coming out from the burner tray. When replacing it, be sure to check for blockage at the burner tray, heat exchanger and the flue if vented with duct work. This is a critical safety device so do not bypass it.
