Ice build up under the freezer drawer

We find water leaking out of the fridge. In trying to determine the source - we found that ice is building up under the freezer drawer - and it seems to be running down the back of the freezer originating from under the piece of plastic cover at the back of the freezer and then freezing on the bottom of the freezer. When the build up of ice starts to hang over the lip of the freezer it starts to melt and cause a puddle on the floor under the fridge. Is this caused by a malfunctioning compressor, condensor and evaporator? thanks.

SOURCE: Water freezing on the tray section under the freezer drawer.

sounds like you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you acess to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somwhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wirearound the heater( black calrod heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now everythime the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over

SOURCE: My fridge is about

Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.

  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
  • or
the water is coming from the freezer when is defrosts. the drain line is in the back wall of the freezer and may be clogged up with ice. clean out the freezer and pour some hot water in the very back of the freezer, this will hopefully unclog the drain. if not, then you have to take the back wall out of the freezer to get directly to the drain line. there should just be a couple screws holding it; it is just an aluminum or plastic panel.

  • if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

SOURCE: Build up of ice on bottom of LG fridge freezer

Is it supposed to be self defrost? If so then either underneath the freezer needs to be cleaned. coils if dirty will cause freezer not to work well. I that doesn't help you might have a freon leak which would make it under charged and would ice up like that.

Hello, can you guys please help me locate what the problem is on my fridge? .. Is building ice on the freezer section.. Thx

If it's building ice on the freezer floor it is likely that the defrost condensate drain is blocked. You will need to remove the drawer, shelves, frozen items, rear panel, rear vent and belt the ice there also until you get the drain unblocked and can force hot water through the hole with a turkey baster.

Ice build-up on the bottom of the freezer drawer

Water on the freezer floor has only two sources, 1) ice maker overflow/leak, or 2) defrost drain plugged. For the first you can turn off the ice maker and shut off the supply water for a few days to see if the problem recurs. If this is the problem determine if the water fill valve leaks or the ice maker is the problem and replace the offender. For the second, thaw out and clear all the ice, paying special attention to the drain located under the freezer (cooling) coil. Then clear the blockage from the drain tube. BE CAREFUL AND DO NOT USE WIRE OR SHARP ITEMS as this can pierce a hole in the drain requiring replacement, not something you want to do or pay for. A turkey baster and hot water are useful tools to flush out the blockage allowing water to drain freely into the defrost drain pan under the refrigerator.

A 2 to 21/2 year old Samsung bottom mount freezer RB217ABPN purchased from Costco. Water is starting to collect under the crisper drawers in the fridge section. This is the third time in a couple of months...

You have a leaking water tank behind the crisper drawer. You will need to get back there to determine if the tank is leaking or the water connection is leaking. This will only leak if you close the door and dispense water from the dispenser.

Leaking water and ice build-up in freezer

There's a drain hole in the freezer side behind the bottom drawer in the back wall that must be clogh ; put hot water into it untill melted the ice and keep pouring water to clean the drain (don't worry , the water goes to an evaporative tray) .Keep the drain clean by putting every 3/4 months half a cup of clorox or bleach.

Frigidiare PLHS39EESS9 Ice build up in bottom of Freezer

I had the same problem with my Jenn-air side-by-side

Your freezer has a defrost cycle and when the freezer temp is set too cold, your drainage pan and tube freezes up (behind the back panels in the freezer) and when that gets full it spills over too the bottom of the fridge and keeps building up until you notice.
  • Un-plug fridge and put your food in coolers or another fridge.
  • Defrost the freezer, remove the ice from the bottom.
  • Remove the back panel/s (in the freezer).
  • Check the drainage pan. If it is iced up, you'll have to carefully remove the ice and check the drainage hole.
  • If the hole is iced up, so is the first 1-2 inches of the plastic tube leading to the main drainage pan behind and under the fridge.
  • You can use a hair drier to speed up defrost.
  • To defrost the hole and tube I used round ended metal (nut pics or beater attachment ends- avoid sharp objects) heated up in boiling water and gently forced down into the hole and tube until defrosted.
  • Check flow(by pouring warm water) down and looking behind and under fridge(with flashlight) to see if flowing into main drainage pan.
  • Turn up your freezer temp and check with a thermometer. Your freezer temp was probably set too cold
Mine is going on 5 months with no problem. If this continues, it might be the defroster.
Good Luck!
