Does it give a 49.FF95? As their is no such error code "FF95" for a HP 2420. However I've seen 49. XXXX error codes before (XXXX meaning weird Alphanumeric Characters and numbers). This type of error code you can try a couple of Items: 1st - Perform a Cold Reset: 1. Turn the printer off. 2. Hold down the SELECT button, and then turn the printer on. Continue holding down the SELECT button until all three printer control-panel lights flash once and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds. 3. After the message SELECT LANGUAGE appears on the display, press the UP ARROW button or the DOWN ARROW button until COLD RESET is highlighted. 4. Press the SELECT button. The printer performs a cold reset and then continues its power-on sequence. 5. Check all I/O settings and reset any customer-set printer configuration values
If the machine still comes back to the Strange FF95 error I would start with the replacement of the formatter, Part Number for the Formatter: Network versions Q3955-60003 Non-network versions Q3953-60001
It would be nice to know what kind of printer this is. On HP printers a 49.xxxx is normally a critical firmware error. Could also be a bad DIMM or firmware DIMM. Try upgrading the firmware.
You need to get a technician in. The code is suggesting the formatter board.
Note that make sure that the technician (or you if you are replacing it) that once you replace the board and turn on the machine, don't do anything for about 10 minutes. No printing, nothing. Take out the network/usb cord out to prevent anyone from printing. The reason is that the NVRAM (memory) is updating the new board with your information. If anyone prints (whether from a computer or a configuration page) then it will interrupt the update and you will get the same error again.
