Which OS you are running?
If windows xp and upwards:
Print spooling service might have been disabled (or not enabled yet)
Solution:
Start -> Run
In the box type services.msc and hit enter
Scroll until you see print spooler. Check whether it has been disabled.
Enable it.
Start the service (you must have administrative privilege)
If its not the case:
Start -> Run
Type Eventvwr.msc and hit enter
Check System for errors (system) related to spooler service.
Check Application for application related errors.
If you see some please list here. So we can proceed from their.

Not comfortable with making changes to Window Services? Another option is to let Microsoft automatically fix it. Follow this link to Microsoft Fixit for automatic printer related fixes:

1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the
print spooler service)
2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\
folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the
time you tried to print - delete these files.
3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the
print spooler service)
4. Double click the printer icon in the lower-right
corner of your taskbar to examine your print job queue and browse to View ->
Refresh.
Try to print again to verify that the problem is fixed.
