Is the router plugged into the same power source (surge protector or power strip) as your computer? Try plugging it into a different outlet -- one that you know works -- and if the router doesn't turn on there then either your router is fried or the AC adapter that powers it is fried.

DIR-815 Signal strength excellent but no internet

Possibly the power outage caused your modem to reset. The wired connection would still work. first thing I would try is to reset the modem with the reset button, login to the management console and put in your network name and password again.

We decided to restart the rounter because the speed of our internet wasn't very good. However when we turned the rounter back on our wireless wasn't working anymore, and now the whole thing isn't working....

In resetting router it is like setting it back to its factory default. what you need to do is just access the GUI where you can set up the Username and password. Once done with it you may be able to connect to the internet.

The belkin rounter of my dad's laptop was installed without password setting. i tried to set it up on 192.168.2.1 configuration page. i was notified that the rounter will restart again itself...thereafter...

If you can still remember the password that you entered on the configuration page, follow the steps below:
1. In the lower right corner of your screen (near the time and date), right click on the wireless network connection icon, then select view available wireless networks. Or, if your wireless adapter has its own wireless utility, you should see that in the lower right corner of your screen.
2. You should see the router's wireless network name (SSID). By default, the SSID is "belkin54g". Select the SSID and it will prompt you for the network key.
3. The network key is the password that you entered on the router configuration page.

If you cannot remember the password that you entered, follow the steps below.
a. Connect your computer to the router using an ethernet cable.
b. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.2.1 in the address bar.
c. Go to Wireless -> Security. Copy the network key.
d. Then follow steps 1-4 above.

For the MAC computer:
1. From the Airport menu, select the SSID.
4. When asked for a password, enter the network key that you entered on the router.

I hope this helps!

Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

How to unlock my wireless router

Hi Friend

I hope this will work for you. There is a RESET button on every router. Just push and hold that RESET button for 30 seconds. After that release the button and unplug the power cable from back of the router and wait for another 30 seconds. After that plug it back and wait until the power light becomes solid and steady. Now your router is unlocked.

Enjoy

Netgear not working after power failure

Netgears are NOTORIOUS for this. If a hard reset didn't fix it, the one where you hold the red button down for like 30 seconds then it is gone. I have replaced SO MANY of these. The first thing that went on them was the wireless and they did have tons of complaints on this at one time as well.
Get a Linksys rounter, I have hardly EVER had any problems with them and they are now owned by Cisco, even better.
