Remove the 2 screws from the front of the popup flash The rear plastic cover will the clip off.
Inside you will find a small switch on the right side of the flash unit when it pops up the switch should make, if it doesn't try shorting it with a small insulated item the try the camera in low light and see if if flashes.
To fix you need to remove the spring-screw from the other side then gently prise the bracket off, then just pull out the small white sleeve on the right hand side of the popup near the switch, this sleeve moves in slightly and will not make the switch on the popup flash.
Gently put the flash bracket onto the camera, be very gentle as the wires are very thin. You will see the white plastic bearing has 2 small clips which need to be through the hole on the bracket the pin which activates the switch will then be in the correct position.

How do I turn off the red eye light onnikon D70s

To turn off red-eye reduction mode, pop up the flash, then hold the flash button down while turning the command dial on the back of the camera to select the desired flash mode.

The same light is also used for focus assist. To disable that, you'll have to go into the menu system.

Are you using a lens hood? That could create the shadow.

The built in speedlight on my D 70S is not synching. Seems like the flash goes off before the shutter opens. My pictues all comes out dark no matter what I try. Can you help me?

I fixed this same problem with my D70s today, after twelve months of getting dark pictures despite the flash firing. It started syncing properly after I performed the following, though I'm not sure why as I was just mucking around.
- Set Program to P. - Push button to activate built-in flash. - Push, and keep depressed same button, which will put you in Flash Exposure Compensation mode. - My Flash Exposure Compensation was on +0.3 so I set it to 0.0 by turning the front wheel. Seemed to fix it.

Built in speedlight on nikon d70 has stopped working. The light pops up, but no flash

If flash pops up and doesn't fire, little white pin/lever inside flash has lodged up inside flash casing and needs to be eased from where it is stuck. Careful when opening the flash up to dislodge the white plastic pin/lever, there are tiny wires you REALLY don't want to damage....

See how, with pics here:

The built-in flash on my nikon d70s does not always fire. sometimes this goes on for quite a few frames before it functions again. and often when it does decide to "wake up" it fires way too hot...

Forced flash will not work in auto. If you are not using 'P' mode you should. In 'P' mode it will flash everytime.

That said, the many flashes does not sound right. I would call Nikon's tech help line at 1-800-nikonux.

Nikon D70s will not shoot

Make sure the hotshoe is clean, this will give the hotshoe a better connection. Make sure you lock the speedlight into place.

D70s pic over or under exposed problHems with flash

photoschool,
Try cleaning the contacts on the flash carefully with a pencil eraser, make sure there are no crumbs left then reconnect. Sometime the contacts get dirty or have some corrosion so they aren't making good contact to the hotshoe (look at that too) then try it again. The flash should be acting right after that.

D70s the flas will not stay closed waht should i try

The flash pops up automatically when half-pressing the trigger in Auto mode.

If you mean it can't be closed by hand, you need to send it to service.
