Every time i try to burn songs from i tunes onto a cd it comes up error 2131 and i wont let me burn.

Error 2131 is an error that is encountered with iTunes trying to burn a cd or dvd.

The Fix:

Update your drivers. I suggest downloading Device Doctor, a safe freeware that scans your machine and will look for the latest driver updates of the computer's devices.

1. Click Download.
2. Click Save.
3. Go to My Documents > Downloads Folder.
4. Click Device Doctor's .exe file. Installation will start.
5. After the installation, the application will scan for driver updates. Just click download.

According to the support page the firmware update fixes the iTunes
issue with “The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error
occurred (2131) when you tried to burn playlist to disc for blank CD-R
media. the region code error for DVD movie playback.
NOTE Please DO NOT USE THIS UPDATE FOR A TOSHIBA LAPTOP the computers
may have the same optical drive but the firmware updates may not be
identical and flashing with the wrong firmware may damage your drive”.
This isn’t just the Toshiba Equium A200 laptop getting an error of
2131, the other notebook’s manufacturers also established the source
of the problem and they have to provide a firmware update to download
and fix this problem. The best thing you can do is wait until Toshiba
provide a firmware update specifically for the TSST TS-L632H version
TO01 drive in your laptop.

The problem is with your optical unit, (TSST****), it must be firmware-updated, which version of iTunes do you have?

Your CD Drive may be just a CD/DVD reader Drive may not be able to burn onto CD/DVD,s my dads laptop cant, he gets same error when he trys, so he had to use a different cd/dvd burner on a desktop.

If you have a desktop or laptop and you are 100% sure it can burn to CD/DVD,s then i reccomend you get a program called "ULTRA ISO" it is shareware but allows burning up to 300mb per cd for free before it asks you to pay so as long as you keep cd files below a total of 300mb you,d never have to pay. if its actually ITUNES which is reporting the error then your CD/DVD drive may require its own software before itunes will reconise it as CD/DVD burner drive. windows media player can report this type of error also.

You can try reading through this page and see if there is anything that helps. Mainly i am posting it for refrence but i need to know what drive you have. Apparently apple has the wrong support for some cd drives

try to reinstall the O.S. /firmware.

Hi,
This could be several issues.
Firstly there could be a format compatability error.
if the burner is looking for Wavs and finding MP3s, then you,ll need to convert the formats, for compatability.
Secondly this could be a copyright protection function, if the cd your trying to copy is protected, then the writer will refuse to copy the files. ( can Sometimes happen if downloaded )
I,d suggest locating some better Software, for your writer.
Or re-installing your original packet-writing software that came with the writer.
