That did not help for me. Here was my solution.
The problem was I had installed Windows 7 Pro N version. That version does not include Windows Media Player, along with many important DLL's. Essentially was missing these additiional dependent DLL's: WMVcore.dll, GPSVC.dll, IESHIMS.dll.
After installing the 'Media Feature Pack', all is working!
See this knowledgebase article for more info.
Hope that helps someone else.

You need to manually register the DLL, by following the instructions at this URL:
http://ss64.com/nt/regsvr32.html

You will be using REGSVR32. You may need to unregister the DLL first, then Register it from scratch.

Good luck!

Pictures will not transfer from camera to computer. a message keeps popping up saying that Nikon Transfer Imagine has encountered a problem and needs to close. I have downloaded the latest update, same...

Your computer may have a problem. Try another computer - install the driver and then connect on it. In many cases with the new operating systems like Vista and Windows 7, the driver is not necessary to install - just plug it in and it should recognize the camera as another drive to access your pictures.

Try downloading from the memory card. You will have to purchase a card reader, usually less than $20. It will save the batteries, too, since the reader is powered by the computer.
Make sure the batteries have a good charge. The camera powers the download not the pc.

Consider getting a card reader.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Trouble downloading pics from my Coolpix L100

Are your batteries fully charged? Direct Camera to PC transfer uses a lot of power. Some early L100s could not use rechargable batteries - unless you downloaded new firmware fron Nikon. That needs a card-reader. Once you have a card-reader, use this to download the pics, so that the PC supplies all the power.

Try Nikon Transfer at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61.

You can also download a codec from Microsoft that makes Windows recognize NEF files.
