When trying to download nikon transfer, I get an error 1904 message, saying mvwriternk.dllfailedtoregister. I talked to nikon they told me it was a windows problem
That did not help for me. Here was my solution.
The problem was I had installed Windows 7 Pro N version. That version does not include Windows Media Player, along with many important DLL's. Essentially was missing these additiional dependent DLL's: WMVcore.dll, GPSVC.dll, IESHIMS.dll.
After installing the 'Media Feature Pack', all is working!
See this knowledgebase article for more info.
Hope that helps someone else.

You need to manually register the DLL, by following the instructions at this URL:
http://ss64.com/nt/regsvr32.html
You will be using REGSVR32. You may need to unregister the DLL first, then Register it from scratch.
Good luck!
