BLINKING ICON I have a A105 S2004 Toshiba Laptop, was downloading from Limewire and got a virus, Norton caught it and quarantined it and deleted it. My icons now blink on and off and I can't do anything else on my laptop. Did a defrag, no luck. Did a Full Scan and no virus found. Had some computer guys work on it, and they tell me that I need my start up disk when I bought the laptop. Is there anywhere that I can get a new start up disk for my laptop? Mine is in my storage (I am in the military) and we are heading back to Japan. Would like to fix it as soon as I can.

Buy DVD(2) and Burn"Recovery Disc Creator2" from your own Hard drive, this should have actually been done BEFORE the Crash, But this will Initialize components that were lost or in need of repair at no cost to you and give you a back up for future reference. Thank you TOSHIBA for NOT letting us know this. How do I know this, been there -Done that. A recovery disc will cost you 24.95.

If you want it to be fixed as soon as you can, you can buy a new Operating System Disk for example the Microsoft Windows Xp or buy the same operating system that you are using right now. You can also borrow someones CD that is the same Operating System version that is installed in your computer to reformat your PC right away. When you are using Windows, all you need is the CD Key that is used in your laptop, it is usually written in a sticker under your laptop. When you buy a brand new installer, you will have a new CD key in it. Dont forget to save/back-up all your important files first in an external harddisk, usb flash drive or in a CD first before you start reformatting your computer. Get a help from a computer guy on how to format it. Hope this helps.

My Toshiba laptop A105-S4034 laptop wont boot up correctly

The j is the drive letter that your laptop is expecting the cd drive to be and of course it is not. Go into the bios and select it to boot from the cd drive instead of the hard drive and try again. if it boots correctly from the cd the when you get the option to install windows make sure you delete the partition that windows was on. In fact delete all the partitons asyou have the cd's providing you do not have a data drive with all your info on it.

  • replace norton, try kaspersky anti-virus or bit defender

Ran a scan said nothing was found.Looked quarantine 2 Virus were quarantined. one was Win32/PSN.LineageDN/PWS-Lineage,the other one I did not get written down.I got online to try and find out what to do...

SPEAKING WITH MY EXPERIENCE UNISTALL IT. TRY SOMETHING ELSE.

FREE SPYWARE
Download Spybot Search & Destroy. Restart computer, then run Spybot to see what spyware comes up, AND DELET IT.

FYI---Virus Protection-- 2 programs of virus protection will conflict with each other and will actually cancel out the protection. SO just download one.

Running Spybot Search & Destroy with EITHER Avast or Avg (great Free virus protection programs ) will keep a computer in good working condition. FREE

HERE ARE SOME LINKS, THAT WOULD BE BETTER:

$ *** KASPERSKY ***
http://www.kaspersky.com

There are alot of $ anti-virus and Internet security programs out there,

ie: Norton, McAfee, Panda, Bitdefender. If you would like to pay $ then get ***Kaspersky***-- 2010 , I feel that is the best for your money.

REMEMBER TO KEEP UP THE DAILY MAINTENANCE ON ALL OF YOUR COMPUTERS.!

Good Luck.

Webroot problems

I just went through this this afternoon, I spent 8 hours removing and updating and loading McAfee and running it too.

Webroot is a bad program, it is hard to remove and some of the componets just cannot be removed unless you do a search for the file and then delete it....if you need a certain dll then the anti-virus should detect that and remove or quarantine it.

I would suggest that you remove Webroot, and install another anti-virus program...I swear by McAfee, it removed over 30 problems or quarantined them, it works and is well worth the money spent....If you have Comcast, it is FREE to download on all of your computers in your home....just part of the internet service.

PS...Uniblue registry booster is no good, and another one that is hard to remove...it has spyware too.
