Question about Car Audio & Video

Fitting a jvc head unit to a 1990 telstar tx5 does the yellow wire from car connect to yellow from jvc and does red access. wire from car connect to red from jvc. because have tried this nothing happening unless i connect red and yellow together from jvc and red and yellow from car.appreciate any help cheers.

Get a voltmeter(multimeter) and check the voltage on the

red wire
and
yellow wire
(from the car)
when the car is turned off and when the car is on

one should be 0V when the car is off
and both should be 12V when the car is on

then you need to match that up with the radio using the manual

but im guessing that you dont have a manual so...
i want ot confirm that
when you connect red to red and yellow to yellow
nothing happens

try the oposite way

red to yellow yelolow to red

I'm trying to fit a JVC cd head unit into 51 reg corsa, have connected wiring but unit does not power up. help!!!

Make sure the red wire and yellow wire have 12 volts (may be as high as 14.4 volts) positive voltage & the black wire is grounded (negative) Also check the fuses on the head unit (usually on the harness) and make sure the speaker connections are not shorted before powering it up. Any blue wires from the radio should be isolated & taped off to prevent shorting. Those are used for power antennas & amplifier trigger.

The orange wire from the head unit is for the dimmer. This wire allows the face of the radio to dim at night when the headlights are on.

Is the camshaft turning? open the oil filler cap and have someone try to start the engine. You should see things moving.

Do the jvs have a memory wire. I tryin to put this in a 2001 nissan altima. I need to know if the car have a memory wire for this redio.

You need to hook up the yellow wire from JVC to the yellow/green wire in car(12+ constant memory) and the red wire from JVC to purple from car(switched 12+ volt accessory)

Radio wiring

The JVC unit has a RED wire, it sounds like this is connected to a power source that is ON with ignition...this is OK. Your unit also has a YELLOW wire, and it sounds like this also connected to a power source that is ON with ignition.....NOT OK....this wire needs to be connected to a power source that is On all the time.

JVC drains battery when OFF, puzzling

The problem is actually the wiring. Check the installation manual, I guarantee the "pro" installer took a shortcut.

There are two power wires (yellow & red +) and a ground wire (black -).
Now, black goes to chassis grounding point. Easy.

Yellow goes to a live terminal in the fuse block for constant 12V.
This retains the settings and clock etc.

Red goes to an ACCESSORY terminal in the fuse block (so key must be turned to at least ACC to allow it to be switched on).

But in the case of my car, the idiot who installed it ran the red wire directly to the + battery terminal. That's wrong, and will drain the battery.

Google for an installation manual, I'm certain your JVC head units will be the same procedure.

JVC CD player won't turn on, but will eject CD and display time.

Make sure the red wire is still connected or make sure the red wire hasn't been severed. Also, check the fuses located in the engine compartment. The red wire connects accessory terminal in the fuse block. Also check the fuses in the cabin. This fuse box is typically located on the driver's side, at knee level, next to the door panel, and underneath the dashboard. As a last resort, the unit can be taken to an authorized or factory service center.
